There are a number of books on HRM training, check at either Amazon or Barnes&Noble. This is a relevant webpage

thanks but that link appears to be dead. Unfortunately my usually excellent library doesn't appear to have anything :-(

When I participated in a triathlon training program a couple of years back, we had Heart Zone Training from Sally Edwards' book. I specifically liked that she had bike-specific references, such as indoor/outdoor workouts, VO2 Max, how cadence, resistance and body position make a difference, and intervals. There was also this test we took - 2 min at each 10 bpm level - which determined a more personal max HR. Worth a look!

    Thumbs up Heart Cycling

    hey adkoch/Angie,
You're right...Sally Edwards has a ton of heart rate training info...she also co-authored a "heart-cycling" specific book with Sally Reed. it's a terrific resource for incorporating into anyone's training program whether you're a roadie, mtb'er, spinner, triathlete or all of the above! There are a variety of workouts to use, either indoor or out. I found it at a large national bookstore chain but Sally also has a website, in case you want to check it out (Sally is the national athlete/spokesperson for the
    Danskin Women's Triathlon series too):

Lots of good info to help anyone in learning more about the most important muscle in their body...have fun!
    Mary
