Thanks Deb, at this point we are 99% sure its MIT, but Olin offered him a $130,000 scholarship, which I have to say as a parent is a LOT of money. MIT doesn't offer merit scholarships, and in fact their financial aid offer will arrive next week, but Cal Tech does (although he gets their decision next week). In you take the money out of the equation, he definitely prefers MIT, but his plan is to take seriously the financial offers as well. Do you know much about Olin? Its a very interesting new school: http://www.olin.edu/admission/docs/PrincetonReview.pdf. The students they get are of the same caliber as MIT, and many turn down Harvard, MIT, Cal Tech, etc. Maybe we can talk off forum if you have any insight on Olin.

Thanks for the suggestion Mr. Silver, but at this point we are going to look into publishing his science fair project in a scientific journal. That will also help him be competitive at Intel ISEF, another opporuntiy to win scholarship money to help pay for MIT. He does have 6 years worth of published abstracts, but never a full paper.

To all teachers out there, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! We appreciate so much what all of you do for our kids!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

All schools the schools are excellent. I wouldbe going where the majority of the bills are paid for, but that could be because I am still paying off student loans.

A very proud mommy moment indeed.

Congrats to son and to you! Isn't life great when you "good problems" like "MIT or Olin"?

If he happens to choose Olin, you gotta post status reports for the geeks in the crowd. Since I first read about it, I've been intrigued by its hands on, just-in-time learning. Fascinating idea, but, then, MIT...geez, what a wonderful problem making that decision will be....you can't go wrong.

I would seriously think about Olin. It is a very cool school and the students get real life experience right from the beginning. I live near both; so you can visit if he goes to either MIT or Olin.
My husband works for a scientifically oriented software company near Olin and they hire many graduates from both schools.
The $130K is something to really think about!

Another great offer, thanks so much! You know maybe we could have a Boston area TE gals ride when I visit my daughter at Wellesely at the beginning of May. I was invited to give a seminar at Tufts Med Center on May 1 so I was gonna fly up for the weekend and stay with my daughter. How does an early sunday ride sound (since as a college student she'll be sleeping in!). I can bring Feronia on her first airplane ride....
