Rolf Elans. Love that 1250 g per wheelset! I actually already had the wheels, which helped me "stay within budget" while building the rest of the bike.

Actually, gals, my birthday isn't for TWO MONTHS. However, since I've never been very good at buying things for myself "just because", I felt like I had to somehow justify the purchase. I've been round and round with myself on this...do I really need a new bike? I mean, my old bike got me through some pretty tough rides and I survived, and it's still working just fine and the new wheels last year really helped with performance...but did she really need to be replaced? Why did I really want a new bike? The only real bonafide excuse I could come up with was that my old bike really hurt me after about 120 miles. (But then I suspect I'd probably hurt on ANY bike after 120 miles, and I'm not sure I'll ride anything longer than a 200 k anymore, but that's beside the point. )

I'm still not sure I really needed this bike. But I have it now, so I guess I'll just have to get over this guilty feeling. *sigh* I blame it all on Catholic school (which I got kicked out of).

Congratulations! Yes, on the getting kicked out of Catholic school! And on deciding the celebrate your wonderful self with the purchase of a fabulous new ride that you really wanted.

Hugs and happy butterflies carrying that guilt away,

    That's affirmative.

I did a test ride this afternoon, which included the li'l 20% grade hill here in the 'hood. I made it up just fine with the compact, though of course I was standing in my lowest gear. It is surprisingly nimble.

I just can't get over how much I love those Salsa bars. I have a feeling that if I'd had those on my old bike, some of my troubles would have been alleviated.

Looks like a perfect Birthday present! Enjoy!

What a beautiful bike. May you enjoy many happy and safe riding miles on it. As far as feeling guilty, I know the feeling, but please go out a just enjoy your bike.
