    Music help

I love my iPod for plane trips and gym workouts, but am getting tired of my 116 songs. It has a ton more room, but I don't know what to put on it. I go through iTunes, but keep getting attracted to the music I already have, and to go through randomly is tiring and time consuming. Soooo, I am looking for suggestions for new music. I like easy rock, country, and some folk type. I have Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Amanda Marshall, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Colin Ray, Chicago, Billy Joel among others. I am 46 if that helps, and not crazy about repetitive and loud, but willing to think about stuff that will get me moving.

    Any ideas?

    I got 2 for you
    1) Pandora.com - I LOVE this site. It makes a "radio station" for you based on an artist(s) you select. It has cost me a great deal of money. It's free, unless you don't want to see the advertisements, then it costs. I listen to this at work when I'm data crunching, and jump up and write down new artists that intrigue me to buy later.
    2) Towerrecords.com - if you search on the artist you like, they give a list of "similar" artists down the side of the screen.

    Good luck,

To get you moving, I suggest House, Electronic and Dance, like DJ Hell, Miss Kittin, Paul Oakenfold and Digweed. Miss Kittin is getting a lot better as she gets older, going from hard, fast, loud techno to musical artpieces that flow quite well without losing that pulselike thump. "Percolator" works well. My favorite on her latest Day and Night cd.

Other music I'd suggest given your selection is Morphine, Tom Waits and Melissa Etheridge.

Along the lines of what you seem to like, I would suggest:

    John Mayer
    Jack Johnson
    Ray LaMontagne
    KT Tunstall
    Gomez

These are two friends of mine- they sing SO beautifully with incredible harmonies, and they write some of their songs while other things they perform are traditional:

if you click to their cd's there will be links there so you can hear clips of some of their songs for free. You might like them.

Shameless plug for an SF Bay Area singer/songwriter. Jeff Larson. Some of his more recent music is available on iTunes.

Use itunes to find artist that you like one or two songs and listen to their album. You may discover some songs that you havent heard from your favorite people. Also iTunes will " if you enjoyed this you may also like some of this..." Check out the soundtracks to your fav. movies and tv shows too. I find new stuff that was alot

I am a freak about the Barenaked Ladies. A FREAK. So lyrical and singable.

I also have all the Austin Powers movies soundtracks on my Ipod and they are GREAT to work-out to.

Here's some of the stuff that I am digging right now that you might like:

    Susan Tedesci- bluesy
    Kathleen Edwards- alt.country
Lucinda Williams-alter.country (her most recent stuff and live stuff gets really rough, but Car Wheels is a safe bet to see if you like her)
Sarah Harmer- ranges from singer/songwriter in earlier stuff to really fun funky bluegrassy stuff on her recent album
Rocky Votolato- new artist, laidback singer/songwriter
Jack Johnson (for a chillin vibe)
the new Springsteen Seeger sessions c.d. (AMAZING!)

Most of this stuff is pretty laid back and won't get you up and jumping. For some livelier music:

    - Rodrigo y Gabriela- spanish flamenco/heavy metal-inspired classical guitar duet. effin amazing

actually i don't really listen to faster music. if i listen to music i like to kinda just relax into it.

Vanesa Mae - she plays a violin but an electric one and she turns the music of Beethoven, BAch and the gang into pop music. My dad also likes her, and he doesn't even like classical music.

Gipsy Kings - bem, bem, Maria
(Spanish music... "best known for bringing Rumba Catalana, a pop-oriented version of traditional flamenco music to mainstream audiences, a kind of Rumba Flamenca. Many songs of the Gipsy Kings fit social dances, such as Samba, Salsa and Rumba.")
