Hi, ladies!
Thank you all for your positive vibes these last couple of days and especially this morning! I'm home from the test and the sedation has worn off at least to the point that I actually managed to walk the dogs around the block. I did enjoy napping in the sun room for hours, though!![]()
Turns out I have very tiny veins. The first try at the IV on the back of my hand not only hurt more than I expected (deep breathing necessary), it didn't work. The second one in my wrist worked okay and didn't hurt quite as much.
I felt like such a wimp! heh
The sedation worked extremely well. I was not at all aware of the gastroscopy (from the top), and only became aware of the colonscopy in the painful parts. I'd wake up, see the screen, feel the pain, moan a bit, and lapse back to sleep. I did want to see what was on the monitor, but it was not to be. I guess they took 3 or 4 biopsies and I'm to see the specialist in 2-3 weeks.
Weirdest part of all - I thought I'd be as hungry as a horse. I started with a soy protein drink and I barely got it down. I've been home for nearly four hours and have had 2 rice cakes and some water. I just don't feel hungry. That is extremely rare for me, but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. Perhaps I've "shrunk" my stomach as they say, and maybe I can reduce my food intake a bit. That should help with the weight loss!
After two days of clear fluids only, plus the wonderful purgative, plus no fluids from midnight on, apparently the average person loses 5 pounds. As of 8:00 this morning, I lost exactly 2.Darn. heehee
I had moments of feeling scared and weak and alone, but they would pass so quickly and I'd realize that you girls really were thinking of me! Thank you!![]()
Now, hopefully in the next day or so I can get back to some actual exercise!
Hugs and butterflies to all of you!

I'm glad to hear from you... thanks for the update!
I'll keep my fingers crossed that the biopsy results are good. Do you really have to wait two or three weeks for the results? Phew!
I have little veins, too... but it sounds like yours are even smaller than mine. I guess I take after my grandpa - both of us need the child-size needles. I can't donate blood... they can't find my veins!(I love it - at one blood drive in high school, the nurse actually told me I should get pregnant... if I got pregnant my veins would 'pop out' and I would be able to give blood. Um... okay... not the best advice to give a seventeen-year-old!)
I am thinking of you. Take care!
Sometimes it's just that the person who is doing it is BAD at it.Turns out I have very tiny veins. The first try at the IV on the back of my hand not only hurt more than I expected (deep breathing necessary), it didn't work. The second one in my wrist worked okay and didn't hurt quite as much.![]()
They get 2 chances with me, and then I insist on a phlebotomist.

I had a nurse tell me that I have "little, roly-poly veins." So know exactly how you feel. One thing I learned while having a glucose tolerance test years ago was to make sure you are warm. They're even harder to hit when you are cold and most of those rooms are cool.
Yikes! roly-poly and little are rarely descriptors of the same item!![]()
The nurse actually wrapped my arm in a heat pack before she even started trying. She knew I was probably dehydrated already. I don't know if she was bad at it, or just made a poor judgement by trying that vein first. What I do know is that by the end of the day at work yesterday my hand was aching pretty good. Guess that's what happens.
Oh, yes, and I even asked for an extra blanket when I was laying there waiting to go into the procedure. I was pretty much cold by the first evening of clear liquids only....Luckily I've warmed up now!![]()
