Being hypersensitive to smells, I feel your pain. I'll ask the obvious - why weren't they spraying OUTSIDE? Most aerosols have "use in a well ventillated area" warning label on them. Are they working on a classroom activity, or goofing around?

The air in classroom is so heavy today. And I have some boys who are experimenting with stinky spray on stuff. At least I think it's the boys...
It's a recipe for a nasty headache.

Anyone with allergies to fragrances is going to start having problems. This can cause asthmatic reactions. Is there a code of conduct that says minimal perfumes, cologne and fragrances? I see signs posted all the time in doctors' offices asking visitors not to wear any.
Beyond good taste, this is a courtesy and health issue.
They're young; they're learning. Hopefully, they're also showering.![]()

They use the spray at home and have a heavy hand.![]()
We talked about it last week. I don't want to beat a dead horse. You have to pick your battles with 10 year olds.
I'm freezing them with the door open instead. I of course am comfortable in a cashmere sweater.

Oh man. This is funny - I mean I am sorry you're having to endure it, but still. The mental image is pretty funny. Kids are SO weird. And you're right, you do have to pick your battles. But I love that they're having to freeze now.
(Hijack - Em insisted on riding her bike this morning. It allows her to hang out at home and not rush to be driven by me and get to school super early. I told her it was going to rain, and that she'd have to ride home and it would probably rain. I finally thought what the heck am I doing trying to talk her out of it, and just let her ride. Don't know if it rained. Oh well.)

I am totally aware of being sensitive to smells. We have a regular customer that loves to just hang out in the bike shop. The down side is his hygiene. I can smell him coming down the walk way half way across the store. Since I'm the manager, I'll conveniently get a sales associate to talk we him while I excuse myself.![]()
I feel your pain!!! I'm super sensitive to smells. Almost any type of perfume gives me an instant headache. The only thing I can occasionally tolerate is aromatherapy oils.
Good on you for freezing them out tho!!![]()
I think the problem is that my classroom doesn't vent very well and the heater for my room is hyperactive. And of course the temperature is controlled at the district office. Add to that the lovely smell of men's cologne... The district doesn't trust us to appropriately control the climate.
The room right next to mine is fine.
Indoor recess today. I almost won at Uno.![]()

The student next to me cheated! She was looking at my cards and telling the others what not to play. And then she won!![]()

God I absolutely HATE the smell of department store men's and women's perfumes and colognes. YUCK. They all smell alike- so chemical laden and cheap-disco smelling. Why do people think they smell good?? I want to gag.
I like some very sparingly used natural scents, like sandlewood, lemongrass, myrhh, sage, amber, or rosemary, etc. A tiny tiny dab rubbed through my hair on some inspired mornings is very subtle. Like 1/20th of a drop.Mostly I just use sandewood, mint, orange, or almond soap in the shower and that's enough to smell good under my clothes. Scent is a personal thing and it shouldn't be inflicted/thrown at people around you.

Feelin' sorry for all those girls who aren't wearing sweet-smelly, but have to freeze anyway.

It'd be worse for them if I had to go home sick with a nasty migraine. Work sheet central (boring!), instead of working on our play and creating similes.
Plus this is California. It was 55 degress out today.
