Upgrade from flat bar to road bike

I bought a flat bar road bike (Sublime 2) about 14 months ago and really love it and have got completely hooked on riding. I'm at the stage where I'm researching getting a road bike, trying to work out what I want, what is realisitic and so I know what to save for. I've put a similar post on another website, (so apologies for those who have read it there), but I suspect the responses here might be different.

I'm looking specifically for a WSD as I'm small (5ft) and also have very small hands. I've got a few questions which I hope some of you can answer:

1. What's the advantage of an Ultegra set over a 105 set? And of a Dura-Ace set over an Ultegra set? Is it just weight? What's the difference in weight (I've heard conflicting amounts ranging from 175g to 500 g)? Anything else?

2. Any recommendations on a WSD road bike? My flatbar is about 12kg, so I'm looking to get something lighter than that (about 8 kg) so I can really go on the hills. I assume this means carbon and a price tag of at least AUS$3,000+? I'm still saving (and I'm a good saver), but I guess the more expensive the bike, the longer it will be before I get it. Models I've been thinking about - Subzero (3 or pro), Specialised Ruby, Scott Contessa CR1. Any views or suggestions, particularly given my small hands?

not much help here, but it looks like we are doing the same kind of research. From what I can figure out, the Durace gearset is supposed to be better than the 105 gearset. You could also take a look at Giant brands - they have an XS frame for their models. I have an OCR2, good bike for commuting but I don't recommend it if you want to get more serious.

What is the SUB like? I was recommended a Subzero, but I don't think I want to part with that much cash. From what I can figure out it is a NZ brand.

The SUB are brought out by Avanti, designed by Sarah Ulmer (ie Sarah Ulmer Brand). Yes, they are a New Zealand brand. They are really good value for money for us down under.

I really love my Sub.lime flat bar, which is why I am considering the Subzero as a road bike. The 2007 Subzero pro is carbon, but haven't read any reviews etc on it.

* Ultegra is longer lasting and lighter then the 105, the materials used are more highgrade
* Dura-Ace is significantly lighter then Ultegra but sorta equal in durabilty

And be aware that a carbon frame does not have to weigh less then an aluminium frame. There are some very light alu frames out there. I think if you look further you should be able to find a good (ultegra) bike starting at 2500 aud.
