WD-40 would probably work. Might want to test on a small bit of carpet that won't show.

Yikes! I thought those small black bits on my light gray carpet were sweater lint - but they're black grease! I think they are from using my bike on the trainer - I put a mat and towel under it, but it looks like I have sent some grease flying a few feet behind the bike. My landlord (who also happens to be my dad) is going to kill me! Any hints for getting up at least some of these black stains without spreading them around? I haven't tried anything yet because I'm afraid of turning a small spot into a bigger one. (I have berber carpet - the worst!)

Oil is good, grease is better.

Go to a Joann's or Hancock's. They have stain specific removers. For example, there is one for blood, another for grease, etc.
HTH,
I have had great luck with "spot shot" carpet cleaner. It is an aeresol and has an orange cap. It is a powerful solvent. You can find it at Wal Mart or most grocery stores. Especially good on pet stains. Use a paper towel and blot up the grease - don't rub at it.

Happened to a girl I was with up at race in QLd here in Oz. Was renting my friends apartment and she got grease on the carpet trying to re-assemble her bikeShe got it out with good old detergent!! Amyway has a product called LOC that is brilliant, but don't know if you have it over there.
PS mats are wonderful![]()
happened to me too! I used a general cleaner/degreaser and had it soak in to carpet (like spot remover) and then I washed and dapped with water, finally placed paper towels over spot to soak up any residuals -- it took an about a day and it went away!

Simple Green is an environmentally sound detergent and is great on grease. I don't know about the carpet, but it gets grease out of everything else.

I have used a carpet cleaner from Lowes called Folex. It worked on berber carpet.
My mother-in-law used lighter fluid to remove grease from carpet.

Oooh, these are all good ideas - thanks everyone! Looks like this weekend I will be down on hands and knees with the Q-tips!
Just for the record, I second AND third the Spot Shot. Its AWESOME!!!! Just be sure to get the version in the aerosol can and not the spray bottle. The bottle doesn't seem to be near as effective. It works on EVERYTHING - wine, pet stains, paint (what I couldn't clean up with water). I swear by it. What I love best is you just spray it on and the stain gets lighter and lighter and then in minutes its gone! No cleanup or hassle.
