    Another vote for Terry

    Terry T-Shorts get my vote, too. I tried some less expensive (Performance), not good.

    Another rider recommended Blackbottom shorts, but I haven't found them locally, so haven't tried them.

    I have the same problem, especially since I have chubby thighs (for the moment), I bought some longer shorts called knickers. They are much more comfortable than the shorter shorts.

    Cool Riding Shorts

    Chrys, this may or may not help, but here's what I do with the leg grippers. I turn the up, but inside instead of outside. That way, the fabric of the shorts is against your skin instead of the gripper. Somehow it seems to pinch a lot less that way.

    Because lycra doesn't unravel...

    ... you can actually cut the grippers off. I've not done this myself (I think I would end up with shorts wadded up around my upper thighs), but have been assured it works just fine.
