If you're looking to get that bad smell out of your laundry, just add a cup of plain white vinegar to the rinse water. I know it sounds ridiculous! But it works! No, you won't end up smelling like a salad. For some reason, the vinegar neutralizes odors. I have a gallon bottle in the basement next to my washer just for that purpose.
