I'm no expert being such a newbie, but I didn't wash any of mine before wearing commando. I seem to have survived. It's true that the chamois is softer after washing, though. But it didn't bother me before, either.

I do if I bought them in a store (don't mean to gross you out, but you never know for sure how many times they've been tried on). If I buy them here on TE, I don't worry about.

I am a bit of a germaphobe and that's what I'm afraid of. I brought another pair of regular shorts, so will just use those (hopefully I can survive one spin class w/o my padded shorts!). Thx.

That brings up a pet peeve of mine. When you try on a bathingsuit, they tell you to try them on while wearing undies. Why don't they do the same with bike shorts???? I have never seen a sign or anything in a fitting room about that.

Anywho...the last 3 prs of shorts I've gotten have been mail-order, so I didn't really think about that. I bought tights retail, but didn't sweat over that too much.

So yeah...new rule (for me): Wash short (any shorts) before wearing.

    Ummmmm...

Don't you ladies in the states have those "hygenic" seals on all togs/bathers, bikeshorts and other unmentionables. the "GOOD" brand bike shorts over here do. Plus the tri suit I bought from TE did too.

I have however seen in the changing rooms in the city a sign saying "wear your undies while trying on shorts please"

Also on the tag of my Pearl Izumis it read "wash before use"

So yeah. in the interest of your health I'd say wash. I do.

I, too, am delicate and sensitive and regret it if I don't wash the manufacturing stuff out of things before sticking them on my body.

I've ordered swimsuits from Lands End that came with that little peel-off liner--that seems like a good idea. But I've never seen one of those in bike shorts. I did notice that the shorts and knickers I got from TE included a note to try them on with underwear, in case they didn't fit and you had to send them back. That seems to be just good, considerate, common sense, but not everybody has common sense, I suppose.

I just wash everything before I wear it as a habit, no matter where I purchased it.
