    Question what speed shoud i ride within 92% of mhr????

    i ride a bike from last year.i made a pause of 6 months and now i am starting again.i bought pulse monitor and today i broke my theoretical max heart rate(it should be 197 as i am 23 years old,but it is actually 220).is it too bad having it so high?i was riding 20miles and about 50 minutes in hr zone 4-5.(90&#37.i am interested is it maybe mistake or something cause i had av.speed just about 20M/hR.i am 106lbs and my bike 21.
    I AM ALSO INTERESTED which connection is between power(watts)and HR?IS THERE SOME FORMULA.I CALCULATED ON LINE MY POWER OF TODAY RIDING AND IT VAS 170 WATTS.

    Everyone's heart rate and max heart rate is different - It is okay to be high.

    However, if you just started riding your bike after being off for about 6 months, it might not be a good idea to try to hit your max right away. You should probably be trying to build a base of muscular base as well as an aerobic base before you go trying to do max heart rate intervals. My personal max heartrate has always been high in comparison to the charts.

    I don't have a power tap so I have not worked with those types of measurements so I cannot help you with that. I am still old school and if training just use a heart rate monitor and lots of interval type training.

    And there's NO answer as to what speed you should be at x% of your max HR. Speed is dependent on terrain, wind and so many other factors that it's not really a question that can be answered.

    First I'll say it is entirely possible that you have a max of 220 (mine is 211) and that there is nothing wrong with that.
    The caveat - this is often the figure that you'll see if you pass an electric fence or under a power line - so you may want to do a test under controlled conditions to really measure your max and then calculate your zones. If you suddenly see your hr jump high rather than raising steadily suspect some outside influence.

    Another thought - you say you spent 50 min in zone 4/5 - was that calculated from a max of 220 or 197? if it was calculated from lower number and your max is actually the higher one you actually spent your time in zone 3 (as calculated from a max of 220) rather than zone 4 (in any case there is nothing wrong with spending that much time in zone 4/5 - it won't hurt you)

    As far as power and hr being linked - No! that is one reason that people prefer to train with power. When you look at power numbers it is much easier to see if you are tiring or overtraining. When you can no longer maintain your target power its time to slow down - but with HR you can still theoretically push your hr high even as your power output drops, so its easier to over do it.

    Yeah I was at 95% of my max HR and doing less than 4 miles an hour on Saturday.

    thanks a lot!i am confused just because i want to evaluate myselfe and have no woman team here,so i am always asking myself if i am good enough or even good at all.know that weather influences are strong ,and that there is no unic formula for cycling performance.those parameters on my cyclo comp.are only relevant to me( exept speed).today wind carried me (me and my bike all together -127lbs)

    Hi, I'm another high heart rate here 215 is the highest I have seen in a controled situation, but I normally back off at about 214 so there is a chance I have a 220 as well. Anyway don't listen to all the people who say bad stuff about a high max, the key becomes can you use that higher heart rate to its full potenial? I have many rides under my belt that are zone 4/5 so it is not a problem to be that high, especailly if you have a high threshold which is almost zone 5 as well. You should find with training it is harder to get those heart rates as you have to do a higher volume of work to get them. The more physically fit and trained your body becomes the harder you have to work to see 200+.
