We went out with friends last night...by the time we left the bar it was 4F.The frozen walk to the car was unbelievable (6 blocks), I can't remember the last time I was that cold.

It's about 20 F out this morning, sunny, with increasingly howling winds at 10-20 mph. We had our first real snow last night! I'd say about 3 inches. Not enough for snow shoeing or x country skiing, but it sure looks nice. But, too bad it's going to be FREEZING next week. Not higher than the teens, lows below zero F.
Well SheFly is probably out riding down Strawberry Hill Rd or across a frozen pond. I'm getting ready to do a yoga DVD and (maybe) get on my trainer!

We've had the coldest weather in a decade in S Dak. This morning it's -7 and we've had monster winds with this cold snap too. No snow to use my new snow shoes either. I'm enjoying riding via everyone wonderful pics, ride blogs and reports. Trainer just doesn't count!
four degrees here aat nine p.m.
Right Now I am still inclined to ride tomorrow because hey, I was given a pair of ski goggles. Have to remind myself what a flat tire would be like, though...
It's -5 F right now. Supposed to get down to -11 tonight with dangerous windchill of -32. Makes me want to hibernate!! A high of 4 tomorrow. I will most happy when this deep freeze is gone!!!
I did manage to ride on Sat. The high temp was 5. Winds were 25mph. Windchill, I really didn't even want to know. I was on a ride called the BRR Ride in Perry, Iowa. This was the 30th year the ride was held. I've gone on 11, so I was determined to not miss out. I must say, it's the coldest I've ever ridden in and I did NOT do the whole ride. (22 miles). Some people who did seriously ended up with frostbite on their faces, toes, and fingers. I am NOT that dedicated. Or stupidly stubborn.I rode 10 miles. That was plenty. Then I got a ride back in a nice, warm vehicle. Tons of post-ride fun and I wasn't too frozen to enjoy. Now I will wait till it warms up a bit before I try go out again.
I think all my layers of clothing weighed almost as much as my bike!![]()

I managed to ride all of 12 miles yesterday. At least it was sunny but I still haven't figured out my layering right and my toes were froze. Dumb - I didn't put on wool socks like I normally do at this time of the year. I figured the neoprene shoe covers would have been sufficient. Nope.
Also in the upwind leg my fingers were freezing in my new TE lobster claw wind gloves/mitten thingies, but on the return trip (downwind leg) they were ok. I like the gloves. A lot! Cannondale 3-season gloves. But at 35o need to wear liners underneath I think.

If my toes hadn't been so cold I would have stayed out longer, but my knees were starting to be cold as well. As I narrow my threshold for cold it looks like it's got to be sunny, wind under 15mph, and temps 30-35. As long as I get 2 of the 3 conditions it seems to be tolerable for a short time anyway. That, or I need warmer tights. I have what Performance calls their warmest, windproof tight. So how to layer tights? Knee warmers on top? Thought about trying my rain pants on top. Any suggestions?
Supposed to be in teens, single digits, with highs in 20s most of this week. Guess I'll have to go to the gym. I'd much rather be on my bike.

To those of you in upstate NY - keep the snow shovels handy! I can't imagine having the amount of snow you have right now. We'd be out of school for a month - and that's only if it stopped snowing now and began melting. Hang in there!

Strangely, we still have little to no snow here in upstate NY where we are, about 45 minutes southeast of Albany (a 2 1/2 hour drive north of NYC). And nothing but clear sunny skies in the forecast. There's about 2" of old snow on the ground from last week, but nothing much at all. I think those big snows were further north and west from us in NY state.
