Good clarification...I was thinkin' what would happen if I said "Silver, there's the really great woman I work with that I'm going backpacking with...what do ya' think?"

I would HOPE that conversation wouldn't go well

we have to be careful with our acronyms here! with some, I just figure it's me not keeping up, but with others, that are the same as others, like GF!!!!!

Well, I'm curious, because my bf/dh/so (together for 14 yrs, co-habited for 13, have a son, not married, so what do I call him?...) has both male and female friends that he goes on skiing and climbing trips with: can you call a guys female friend a girlfriend, like I call my female friends girlfriends?

Don't get me wrong: I'd wouldn't be thrilled if he wanted to go on an overnight trip with *only* this (very attractive, funny and smart...) female friend, but he does go climbing with her afternoons, and I'm fine with that I do the same, have both male and female friends but I wouldn't go on an overnight trip with just a male friend without discussing it at home. I do for fieldwork trips though.

    I'm on a tangent here.

I tried to go back and edit my first post there but could not.
I totally trust my hubby and if he wanted to go back packing let's say with my best girlfriend I would trust them. But at the same time I don't think so! One of you said something about they thought I had an open relationship and it was not thier place to say anything. That was very funny! Thanks for the laugh!
I do not share my man with no other women. Nope not ever gonna happen, besides I am the only women he needs or wants. As far as I know. (lol)
I will watch what I write! Sorry for all the hub bub! Oh no how many have read the first post without reading more. And now think i am in some wierd perverted relationship? No offense to anyone who is perverted!
I hang with guys too. But the two guys I am aloud to go out with without my dh are both gay! But now can he go out with them? Hmmmmmm? Can he go back packing with them? Interesting. I trust him, I don't know about them? They always say how cute my dh is. Nope don't think i would let him.
Now If I went back packing with a gay girlfriend he would not let that happen unless he was there. Yea he is a bit of a perv!
    Sorry if this offends anyone!

You've found a need for new definitions:
ff: Female Friend (which is a non-SO GF)
mf: Male Friend (which is a non-SO BF)

Of course, now that I'm thinking of it:

    DDBF: Darling Daughter's Boy Friend
which should not be confused with:

DDMF: Darling Daughter's non-BoyFriend Male Friend

    The possibilities are limitless.
