V - ya. i think somewhere my mind says that..but then you're talking to the person who just likes to buy wine.. and always has friends who weedle me to open it . but yes, i hear ya about just riding the thing but then i see these posts on craigslist that say "STOLEN!! Bike brand..." I'm on the penisula.

mimi - whoa.. you surprised me. how did you know one of the places i do like to ride is the library?

well, in the meantime, i'm waiting for my repair stand to show up so i can start to see if i can get more done on it and see if i'm going to repaint it.

i think i am. in some places the paint is nic'd enough that the primer is showing thru. so to prevent the whole rust thing i should probably re-paint?

Also consider using J. P. Weigle FrameSaver--anti-corrosion compound that goes inside the tubes. Not sure how useful it'll be on an older frame, but there must be someone who knows.

Or if you decide to go with the "street bike" look, you could clean any rust spots and then clear coat the whole thing to prevent moisture and rust forom getting in anywhere.

Lisa - that could look very cool! A diamond in the rough, as it were.
