    Good job Fredwina!!

So does your 300k really go up Palomar? I saw a reference to that in Bike Journal.

Edit: Oh never mind - I just saw your response. Yeah, DEFECT!

Well, that will be lovely. You can barge into the observatory and do some star gazing!!

I haven't been up there since law school. I bet it would be a great ride. As would Cuyamaca. All the places I used to go on epic hikes...

    Update on the injured rider

her name is Bobbi Fisher, and it looks she was injured pretty seroiusly:

Hi all - just want you to know that Bobbi got hit by a car yesterday on a 200 mile ride she was on. She was hit from behind by a distracted driver who was dealing with a dog and he hit Bobbi. I guess Bobbi hit the hood of the car/truck and landed on the ground. She had an MRI last night and they found breaks in her T8 and T11 (near her cervical) and a torn ligament. She can't move too much or it hurts. They are making arrangements to have a back brace made just for her - she will have to wear it for 3 months. Last night when I spoke with her she said she was fine, just a bit upset that her new sunglasses were gone and that they had to cut off her $80 jersey. Anyway, I'm heading up to see her this afternoon and will let you know what else is going on. She is at the Palomar Medical Center, Room 754, 2nd bed. The address is: 555 East Valley Parkway, Escondido CA 92025. Phone number is 760/739-3000.
She spent the night here on Friday and we got a couple of good card games in! I told her I'd bring cards to play today at the hospital is she was up to it and she said she was...so we'll see!
Anyway - just thought you guys might want to know.
    Love you!

    Letter from Bobbi

This showed up in my e-mail This morning:
Hi there San Diego Riders! I want to thank you all for being so wonderful to ride with....these wacky rides are simply the joy in my life. I swear I have some kind of guardian angel. This is my third incident with a pick-up truck.

The first one was in Swaziland, Africa. A pick-up turned right in front of me on a 35mph downhill. I took out its front quarter panel, its windshield and ended up flying onto the pavement. I ended up with NOTHING...not a scratch on me...just a big bruise on my hip, a taco'd wheel and bent forks. I was back on my bike in 36 hours (took that long to get my bike repaired).

The second incident was a pickup truck on the 101 Fwy north of Ventura on the Grand Tour Triple Century ride. The truck came zooming past me across the white line and smacked me with his mirror...my saving grace on that one was it was a folding mirror and it snapped back (and hopefully broke his window). I don't know how, but I managed to stay on my bike and finish the ride with just a bruise on my arm. (thanx again to that guardian angel!)

Saturday's accident was bizarre. The driver told me that he had just come around a corner, was going 15 mph and his dog jumped in his lap so he couldn't see me. Strange...'cause I was at the top of the straight climb and there were no corners. Also, if he was going only 15 mph, I don't think I would have wiped out his front grill! But the good news is, that although I have 4 fractured vertebrae, they are not serious and surgery is probably not an issue...the worst part are the torn ligaments in my back, which will probably take longer to heal than the vertebrae. I will be in a back brace for about 3 months. They claim I will be off my bike 6 months to a year...well, I know that is hogwash....I heal very quickly and my goal is to be back in training in no longer than 4 months. The doctors cannot believe how little injury I ended up with and they will also not believe how quickly I'm going to recover!

The good news is that if I can't ride the rides, at least I can help staff the rides, and still get my vicarious enjoyment.

So...all of you...please ride as safe as you can and enjoy every minute of your ride....I am sending my guardian angel watches over all of you as well!

Big hug to one and all.... Bobbi Fisher

    Life is like Jazz.....

    So I improvised!
I just made a hotel reservation for 2/23 in Morro Bay (the 300k is on 2/24), and iv;e been exchange e mails with Homey all day.
In case you haven't figured it out : I defected to SLO/ Cayucos!
You did get to Palomar in the daylight, but you also 8'000 feet of climbing after 75 miles. not to mention going thourgh downtown SD on Saturday night.
I may just stick with 200K's - I've also been looking the Southern Utah series.
Will let you all if I have better luck this time.
