Bike Goddess I hope you get better and heal completely quickly. I hope no one minded, but I posted this over at bikejournal.com too as many people know and admire Bike Goddess over on that site as well.
Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches
Yeouch, that must have hurt![]()

Ouch! I didn't realize your elbow could be broken in THREE places! I can't imagine how uncomfortable that must be. (But she got the jacket off...lol. How many of us would do the same!?!) Get better quick so you can get back to TE!

Yikes--that's gotta hurt! So sorry, BG--hope that elbow is quickly healed and back in its ever-so-slightly bent position reaching for the handlebar.

BG -- Best wishes for a speedy recovery!! I fractured my radius a few years ago (wiped out ice skating). One bit of advice---move it as soon as you are able. A lot of folks have problems regaining range-of-motion after breaking elbows. Even though it hurt like the bejezuz, I made myself straighten, rotate, move the joint, as soon as possible. I wasn't in a cast, thank goodness, just a sling---it was a minor break.
I agree.
Worst-case scenario - do what I did - twist the handlebar off-centre to accomodate the unstraightenable arm. Looks silly but you get used to it. And of course *anything* (incl looking silly or having asymmetrical bars)) is better than not riding at all.
It does take *time* but as long as you are making positive progress no matter how little or even just not regressing you are On The Way
Also take pain meds in quantity.Keep it warm too and also hydro-therapy or showers. I also brushed it a lot with one of those soft-ish back scrubber brushes to stimulate both the circulation and the nerves.
Well done saving the jacket. I piked and told them to cut off my almost-brand-new sports bra which they couldn't seem to figure out its velcro/scotch straps and front fastening .They kept trying to turn me over to find some regular hook and eye fastening; all the while trying not to notice the mono-tit on the one side and not lose the silicon prosthetic on the other side at the same time!!
