MS and Walking

Hey All:

For those of you who know my story you can skip down this post a bit. For those who don't, let me bore you with the details. In the fall of 2005 I had a stroke that left me partially paralyzed and off my bike for a while. I just got me a brand new spankin walker that is helping me with mobility, (my new walker has bike wheels, little ones, and brakes)!! I have been walking everywhere!!! To put my walking to use I have decided to join the MS WALK
this spring...I would much rather do the bike ride but I'll take what I can get at this point. I would love if any of you could sponser me...here is the link

Karen, so happy to hear about your new mobility. Please post a picture of the walker (bike wheels, yeah!). Good for you to devote your energy to the MS Walk. You are an inspiration.

Karen - didn't know your story, so thanks for sharing! I will be riding in the GMG for the 5th year this year, and am working on the Steering Committee as well.

You are an inpspiration for sure! Good luck on your walk, and I will think of you on my ride!

I cannot thank you enough for all the time you have taken to make a deposite to my cause. Havin only one half of my body workin makes my heart break for those with MS. It is hopeful/probable that in time I will fully recover from this stroke and I see changes everyday. GREAT BIG HUGS go out to Deb, Denise, Jo, Kim and anybody I may have missed. I will find you and hug you to death!!!

Forgive my complete ignorance, but have you thought of/would a trike work for you? I have one of these that I absolutely love (but I don't have mobility issues)

I have what they call a rollator walker. It has saved my life!! Before I was walking with a canadian crutch...that is until I fell and broke the clavicle on my good arm. Now that I have this walker I take no hostages. I intentionally seek out the little ole ladies in the grocery store who terrorized me when my walking was so poor. Plus, the walker keeps me centered and this will help me get back on my bike, (hopefully before June).

I cannot ride a trike because my left leg sorta just sits there not knowing how to pedal or move...this will get better <soon>.

Thanks to you all, I am so excited to do something I CAN DO!!!!!

Karen - would a handcycle work for now? My cousin rides gazillions of miles on his handcycle. (and he developed seriously sexy broad muscle-y shoulders) There are lots of different styles and models.

One-Off http://www.titaniumarts.com/ makes a very cool MTB handcycle. Check out the photogallery of that critter going up hills!
