I think you should come do Li'l Red with us old timers (on the board, that is) as your first 100!We had a great ride last year. I don't know if you saw the thread from last year, but we had quite a crowd!

Wow, I just read last years LRRH thread (thanks Yellow for the link)...what fun!!! I had done LRRH in 2005 for the first time. I rode 36 miles on my mtn bike (now commuter bike). It was my first "organized" ride I had done in 20 years and really got me back into riding. I missed last year because I signed up to do the ride before the SLC Marathon. That was ok, but not really my cup of tea, you might say. Yellow, I don't know that I could keep up with any of you...I know riding in a group can help add a few mph, but I am lucky if I can average 14 mph. But, I do plan to ride LRRH this year and so maybe I will be lucky enough to ride with some of you...In the back of my mind, I would love LRRH to be my first century. I have to discipline myself and train...I am home sick today, rooten cold and no energy to climb on my trainer...This makes me want to do more indoor training to really get a jump on the season...
sbctwin, LRRH will be my first century too! I sure had fun last year, though I bonked outside of Newton. I have thought about the SL Marathon bike tour and would like to know about your experience.

I am thinking about heading down for the Zion's Country Century next month - I am just anxious to get out on a nice long ride (not complaining about the snow, love the snow - its just a balance ya know.)
I will definitely ride LRRH again this year but up my distance to the full century, hopefully.
And I would like to ride the Desperado Dual but need to find a group to train with and ride with if I'm going to make it that distance.
Not sure about what else I'll make this year as for organized events. Money is very tight so I have to pick and choose carefully.
For those of you considering the Salt Lake Century, be warned. It's a crash fest and not nearly as purty as Little Red.![]()
I probably won't decide if I'm going to Zion Country until the week before (because I am a weather weenie), but I'd be happy to stop in Sandy and pick you up if I do go. PM me your info if you're interested in sharing a ride and room.
Re: finding a group to train with for Desperado...I just found a group of equally crazy friends. I think that BBTC has some sort of super-duper distance group as well...check with The Diva. Training for a 200 can be an intense training schedule that will consume your weekends if you're really serious about it. I remember in June/July last year I did consecutive weekends of 100, 112, 120, wee break down to 85, then up to 145. I'll never forget the 112; I was riding by myself, coming up the back side of Big Mtn, and it was 95 *F.Thank goodness for the beautiful scenery.
