Thanks for sharing that. Am I clueless here? Those poor horses just needed to be convinced by there own kind (i.e., the women on horseback) that is was safe to cross the water??? I guess that is what starts the pony drive every year on Chincoteaque (sp?), tho, - the firemen on horseback.

well, they had almost died because the water was so high. they didn't know it had receded to a safer depth.
And yes, then they DO have to be persuaded... sometimes even to put their foot into a 2" puddle.
