Set off for my 11 miler, running along at a nice sensible pace rather than my usual bull at a gate and about 4 miles in I go and turn my ankle - badly. I swear I though I heard something crack and almost threw up the gel I had just eaten. I found something to sit down on to take stock and take weight off my foot. Realised I was at possibly the furthest away point on my run I could be from home and OH away for the day decided my best option was to walk as it would no doubt take ages for a bus to pass and I'd still have to walk for a bit which would hurt even more if I had sat down for a while.
I set off gingerly but thankfully I was soon able to walk reasonably well - but I got so cold, running kit is not the warmest of stuff to walk in in freezing rain. About a mile form home I realised I was walking normally and tried to run to get warm, managed to run the last mile home which I'm not sure was the most sensible idea but at least I got warm. I'm now sat here with a bag of frozen peas on my ankle having consumed some Ibuprofen and my ankle hurts way more now.
I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself, running is definitely out for the next few days (as is likely next Sundays 10K) just hope I can bike tomorrow.
Just cut myself a wedge of Christmas cake to eat while I decide what I'm going to have for lunch (and to keep me away from the left over Christmas chocolate in the house) and I'm going to wallow in self pity for a while.

remember to RICE - Rest, ice, compress, elevate! It'll probably take a few days to know how it is, but you're probably only set back about a week or two...

Sorry to hear about your ankle.Listen to Tygab, great advice. Take care of yourself, you will be able to run again soon enough.

I think its probably ok. I've been wandering around most of today on it and it feels good apart from uneven surfaces. I found barefoot painful so put my shoes on, I wear arch supports normally and the lack of arch support was really giving my ankle problems. I had a brief pedal this afternoon to check out my new bike computer and the support of the pedal felt great under it.I'll be sensible and only do a short ride tomorrow. The real test will be tomorrow morning though when I've had no ibuprofen for a while

Thanks for the kind words - I got about 15 minutes of wallowing before my cat came in demanding to be fed. Nothing like an attention seeking moggy to cheer you up.
Happy to hear you are feeling better! I twisted my ankle in Feb. 2006... and it stayed with me until around July.
On a positive note though, I was carried across a small ravine by some firefighters... who were on the other side completing drills that day. I refused to get my $90 shoes wet... so they helped me across. So very sweet of them. They then offered to look at it, but I refused help. I already felt really *dumb*.
I went to the Dr. and he said everything was fine... and gave me some $150 brace to put on my ankle. I couldn't wear it though, because it didn't fit in any of my shoes. That resulted in me sending nasty letters to the Dr.'s office... because they said I would NOT be over $75. They finally settled on $75.
Thus far, your experience sounds better than mine! Although, you didn't have a hot, hunky firefighter involved in helping you back home.![]()

Oooh firemen!! Believe it or not I was actually right opposite the firestation when it happened though none of them were wandering about unfortunately!
Its been ok last couple of days, the bruising hasn't amounted to much which I'm suprised about as normally I bruise spectacularly. I lay on it awkwardly in bed last night somehow and its hurting a bit today - so no running today or for at least a couple of days. Which is a real shame as its 30mph winds and rain todayI'll be at the climbing wall tonight so that will give me a real indication of how it is healing up.
Ooo, ouchWear a brace or an elastic bandage when climbing if you have, it'll remind you to not twist the ankle.
