I suppose a cross posting to the Open Forum might be a good idea.

The bike ride will be held on September 29-30, 2007. Waves To Wine begins at Chrissy Field, and then heads over the Golden Gate Bridge on a truly stunning route, that will take riders through the “Waves” portion of our ride along the Cal Amgen Pro Bike Tour route. The Saturday lunch stop will be at Stinson Beach, with an overnight stay at the fabulous Walker Creek Ranch in West Marin. The Sunday route will take participants on a tour of California’s famous wine country, coasting to a triumphant finish on the streets of downtown Healdsburg, the newest darling of the wine community.

Can you tell I'm afraid of heights? But I'll do it for the team!

The rest of the ride sounds fabulous.
Yeah, it's funny how the SF newspapers all keep quiet on the huge number of bicyclists who fall right off the bridge.

I've never ridden across, but if the bike side is the same as the pedestrian side, it's quite safe, and not vertigo-inducing at all. Oh, and maybe it has crisis phones in case you get the urge to jump.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You haven't been mountainbiking with me when I stop for no apparent reason. You also haven't seen me ride down the more difficult side of a two-track road just because that side is the farthest from the edge. I'm getting better . . .

I hate riding over the GG Bridge. Cars on one side and ocean on the other - and lame-o tourists who don't know how to ride a bike coming at you.

Sorry, I know that's not particularly supportive or helpful, but you'll have someone there who's as terrified as you are. I'm hoping I can do this, although 2 day events are always a tough sell with the family. At least it is long after Death Ride season!

GP rides over 2 x a day several days a week on his commute and doesn't mind, but he's "cooler" than I am.

My confidence is growing by leaps and bounds. Safety in numbers, right? We'll just use the buddy system to get across. Of course, we'll send Kim over first so we can't see her rolling her eyes at us.

To me the hardest part on my first time across the GG bridge was negotiating the two towers. Safety in numbers is a plus, that's for sure!

Oh this sounds like fun and since it looks like we will be here until Dec 07 I will be around. We are planning a trip along the east coast sometime this year not sure when so how far ahead do you need to register and how much do you have to raise??

Not having any family here and only a small group of friends (that includes you guys) I might be hard pushed to raise a large amount.

We should really cross-reference to this thread.

V, should you ask Jeff to add the ride name "Waves to Wine" in the other thread?

It looks like the reg is $40(I think?) and the min pledge is $250

Thanks SK. Even I should be able to manage the min pledge.
