Happy New Year!

I watched the Garrison Keillor countdown (the most subdued countdown ever!) all by myself. SOMEONE was so fast asleep she slept through it and through me calling to wake her up to wish her happy new year. She was doing great right up until the last 15 or 20 minutes.

Oh well, at least I got to kiss the dog.

People were letting off tons of fireworks around here and getting into loud drunken fights in the apt parking lot and driving up and down (and up and down and up and down) the lot sqealing their tires.

Ah, the joys of apartment living! "Happy New Year! I'm gonna beat you up, and then just to show you, I'm gonna ruin my transmission!" Testosterone poisoning.

Yep, I'm a party animal. Guess there wasn't enough fighting, sideshows, gunfire and fireworks at the condo to keep me awake. Darn

I don't know what was happening in New York but Garrison had bluegrass, and the funniest song about coffee and Emmylou Harris! Yum. the voice, the while hair.... ok, this will never work, I found out Knott doesn't like Emmylou.

Happy New Year!

This New Year's was probably the best since my 18th, when I went to a friend's singing gig, just because I could. Some peoples' children, anyway!
What made this one so great? Why, the promise of a new year, without xpita! Will there be a new pita in her place? Who knows? I'm just ecstatic for the change as it is.

Trek, Knot, any special secrets for getting rid of malicious xpitas? I'm having a rough time at home (hiding out having breakfast at an internet cafe atm) and just can *not* wait until I can move out *crossing fingers for tomorrow or Wednesday!*

Enough talk of that.
Playing DJ last night was fun. Got mushy though. *Too* mushy. I am *not* a softy, mind you. I just got started down that track. Hm. I'll fix that with some Bad Religion lyrics today. Oldschool Punk. Straight from their '84 album "Back to the Known" it's "New Leaf" here on WWWX the Fox (ok maybe not. Dar, you know that station? )

It really makes you stop and think about the years to come.
Something good had to happen to the human race.
We all had better stop hoping and set our heads on straight.

We've gotta turn over a new leaf.
If the future's only hoped for, we are doomed.
Today is over, it's already shot, so we can think about ourselves.

Kit, no special secrets. Just (((hugs)))).

Sorry that things did not work out with you two. Hopefully you both can heal and move on and maybe talk at some point and come to some kinda resolution.

It's tough going through a break up and still living there, she's still there and the home you made together and the memories and whether you have a small glimmer of hope that you'll get back together or if you never saw her again it would be too soon there's sadness angst etc etc.

But special secrets? Nah. For that just ask my ex, that was about 3 years ago, while my Dad was dying...right before his birthday....I was the "dumpee" not the "dumper", it was awful....but it's ok, everything works out....

PK if you're lurking? I have 3 waaaaaaay better bikes than you. Come to the Cindy with that dusty "off the rack" Mondonico and you'll see a brief glimpse of what the BACK of hand built for me by the man whos name goes on the frame full custom Campy Record looks like, I will politely call out of course and ....

I have a waaaaaay smarter and stronger and hotter and funnier and smarter and .... GF. She's a triathlete! brphftttt

Jennifer, at least the tree was not drinking and driving.

Often you can rent those giant fans, Lowes, Ace, Homelessdespot....

2007 Is Not Beginning Well

Well, 2007 so far has not been good. Our Christmas tree stand leaked for a month , so when we assumed our tree was dinking a lot, it was actually dumping water into our living room carpet. We tried steam cleaning the molded area several times, but the mold smell is strong. DH is unaffected by mold (no clue why), but the boys and I have extremely strong reactions.
Options, options, what are the options? We cannot afford to replace the carpet. We can cut out the molded are and place foam in the hole and cover with a throw rug (tres chic, I know). We could try to peel back the carpet, take out the molded padding, and stretch the carpet, to the best of our ability, back in place. It will not be taught though. Final option leave it and hope we do not suffer too terribly. Last option really is not an option.
So do we go with option number one or option number two? Either way, my living room will look gawd awful.

Anyone have any ideas on how to mask the tragedy that is about to happen up?

sop with a mix of vinegar and baking soda. Vinegar has natural antibacterial properties and should work to kill the mold as well. The foaming action should help loosen it from the fibers as well. Afterward, blot with water and absorb as much as you can...

Hope that helps...

Well it's just as well that your tree wasn't dinking a lot, Jennifer.

Seriously though, I would take out the underpad, replace it if possible, and keep the carpet raised for awhile until it is 100% dry. Then hope for the best. I'll bet there are products out that will take the smell out?

There are companies that deal with flooded indoor carpets. They have big fans that blow under a carpet to dry it. Not sure if they can deal with the mold, but they could definitely help with getting the floor and carpet dry after you do something to kill the mold. I recall this service not being terribly expensive - they just pull up the edge of the carpet and leave a fan blowing for a couple days.
