    Angry GRRRR......Poor Pup

We think he's going to be OK, but......

Teddy went to Petsmart for a bath today. Apparently they weren't watching him while he was on the grooming table for brushing, and dh got a call along the lines of "teddyisreadybuthefelloffthetableandison3legs."

After a couple of repetitions, we ascertained that he had fallen off the table, they didn't know whether he had broken anything and they wanted to take him to their vet (they didn't want to X-Ray). No way. Hubby went to get him and I left my CLE (we were thinking broken hip at this point - 100lb dog not putting weight on a leg is NOT a good thing). I made it there just as the vet took him back - they couldn't get a good X-Ray because they couldn't sedate him because Petsmart fed him as soon as it happened. They don't think there's a fracture based on what they could see. We came home with doggie NSAIDS, but poor guy can't bear weight on the leg for long He just flopped over in the yard trying to potty

At least they've agreed to pay his vet bills.....But we've gotten 3 different versions of what happened. Geez....back to the search for a dog bather...

Teddy needs LOTS of TLC and belly rubs...but not being able to put weight on his leg does not sound good. I certainly hope by tomorrow he can walk better, otherwise I'd get him back to the vet to try and get xrays. Unfortunately, our pets can't really tell us what is hurting and all we have to go on is how they respond. Give Teddy a hug for me....

They did one X-Ray and were able to ascertain that there isn't a major fracture (thank goodness). They just couldn't sedate to get a really clear pic to see if the femur head has a small fracture). They want to give it 2 days and then have him come back for a better pic if he isn't better. My suspicion is that he fell sideways off the table and the leg was hyper extended sideways. We were afraid it might have been dislocated, but the vet was able to palpate and tell that it wasn't.

He's curled up on a blanket and seems comfortable for the moment. He's been getting lots of TLC and special favors! Unfortunately, there are stairs everywhere we are (to get outside, etc). We've been helping the back end up and down.

    Carrie Anne,

I'm hoping for a quick recovery for your Teddy. I know exactly how you feel, having gone through a variety of medical crises, large and small, with Pepper over the years. They are like our kids and we feel their every pain.

    Sending healing thoughts Teddy's way!

Awww, the poor guy. You'd think people who do dog grooming for a living would be more attentive. Big dog plus one bad leg plus lots of stairs = a challenging period ahead--we've been in a similar situation with our black lab several years ago--but she was nowhere near 100 lbs.

Just hope it's not too long before Teddy's feeling better and getting around on his own. Hugs to you and Teddy!
