I also got the Lakes after my experience of near frostbite on a cold and windy ride a couple of weeks ago. I wore them on Saturday for a 3-hour ride, with a stop, and my feet stayed pretty warm with wool socks and light sock liners. If it had been much colder, I probably would have used chemical toe warmers too. I did go up from my normal size.
I got mine from LickBike. This year's model is $194 but they did have some of last year's as well, for less. They are a bit clunky but I didn't have any problem with my clips (not clipless yet).
Winter shoes are definitely worth it if you have have problems with cold feet.

I got a pair of Answer Kashmir shoes for giftmas- I love them! I had been suffering along with summer shoes and thick socks and waterproof socks and booties, but they are such a pain and don't keep you warm below 40 or so. I had also tried on the Lakes (didn't fit, hated the lacing system too), the Sidi (fit, but not terribly warm and OUCH! expensive!) and couldn't justify getting either. I'm really, really happy with the Kashmir.
