    Tri Slugs Unite!

I am such a tri-slug. I've done nothing athletic for....oh...let's see...I've been dating J. for 9 weeks now...yep, nothing athletic for 9 weeks. I ran the 1/2 marathon the day before I met him. I've run twice since. I think I've ridden twice since. No swimming. Sigh. I feel wonderful, happy, in love, but my back's been hurting a lot lately--the same right illeo-sacral area where I always had pain. Time to get back with the aerobic activity that really diminishes the pain. I'm thinking of getting a trainer for the bike after Christmas. It would have to go in my dining room. I have a pretty small apt...I just don't want to have to go through that "getting to know you" phase again with the bike, as I usually do in the spring.

Today the high is going to be 11 degrees F, which is a bit cold for running. Running's the main thing I did last winter. It's not at all bad after the first 1/2 mile of freezing!

So how about the rest of you tri-slugs? I know you're out there! Can we motivate each other back into it?

I've told J. I want to watch Kona this Saturday--I want to watch it with him so he can see why I love it so much. He's such a sweetheart...but I digress. Watching Kona is always a huge motivator. In fact...I may just pop last year's DVD in now and do some pushups! Go, Tri-slug, go!

There is no tri, just do.

On a more serious note, what if we just want to be a slug, tri or otherwise?

I don't want to do tri's but I sure want to be a slug right now. So, what about us non-tri types?

Ah! You meant "what if we just want to be a slug..." Well, go right on ahead! Slugdom is not hard to achieve! Remember Snapdragen's old avatar of the slug on a scooter? It could be the Slug Club mascot! I'm hoping to ease my way back out of the slug club, myself...

You could be Queen of the Slug Club! (Not president--too much work involved)

I'm an active slug. Been working out very hard, but just slow as a slug.

The bike trainer is a great idea. They are not that expensive. I live in a small apartment, too, but I have one tucked away in the living room corner. Although I prefer going to spinning class when I can because it's not as boring.

I, too, can't wait to see Kona on TV. Gee, I wonder who will win?

Seriously if you are capable of running, go RUNNING! You will feel so much better afterwards, even if it's slower than you want, even if it's fewer miles than you wish you could do.

Rather a Slug than a bug on my pug's ugly mug! I tug on the bug, but it's snug on the pug, using a great big hug. It must be on a drug. I finally lug the bug off the pug and drop it on the rug. I smash it with a jug (but first I take a chug.) The pug merely shrugs so I give him a hug. Which he dug.

    Ugh!

It's true. I have nothing better to do with my time.

I'm a slug. Ain't done a darn thing (not a walk, ride, jog, or ther-ex) since Trek and I rode across the Golden Gate bridge. A month ago.

but I just ordered a pair of running pants from TE (thanks, Susan!), so now I gotta go get a new pair of Brooks Beasts and get my buns running again.

Wanna cut 15 minutes off last years tri time. (not sitting down snacking and chatting with folks during transition will certainly help with THAT goal!)

tri slug yes, running slug... no..

I'm in the thick of marathon training, so I've been running a bit more than I'd like. But I've noticed that my biking has taken it's toll. I rode last saturday and it felt like forever since I had been out! I do have the road bike on the trainer. I use that to spin while watching t.v. at night, but alas.. the road just hasn't seen much of me lately. And as for swimming... HA! I can't remember the last time I hit the pool! UGH!!
Of course come January I will be in full on IM training mode, so I'm taking a breather to enjoy the holidays.
But one thing I can't blame is the weather. Sure it got down to the low 30's last week as a low- but the highs have been anywhere from 60-75. Today I think it was 72. Ahhh gotta love Phoenix in December!!

    I'm a tri wannabe slug

does that count? I've done some running and aerobics classes, and spinning. Nothing outside since the temp dropped -- I'm a weenie about cold weather.

I'd really like to train for a sprint tri. I'm sure I'd be ok on the bike and run, but I never swim. So I guess I should do that if I want to do a tri. Can't motivate myself, though. Any suggestions would be great.

Must get motivated. I'm a slug.

Thanks for the thread, it's making me think at least!
