Discussing this in our buildings safety crew today seems that kids who get lost fare better, they instinctively head for high ground so they can see around, find a road and sometimes be found.

Where adults often take the "I'll follow this stream to the river to the ocean" route which may have been his thought.

Very sad. But what a brave man to set out to save his family.

Lisa - hope you're feeling better soon. I have managed to avoid a cold all year. In September I started to get one and started taking the ColdFX and it disappeared. Then two days ago, I was sneezing and all stuffed up. Took the ColdFX again for 3 days and it just fizzled out again. I am beginning to think that maybe there's something to that stuff...

BMOs - get rid of that fever right away. Concerts are important! We have ours on the 19th. From a teacher's point of view, it's just another stressor. But as a parent, I love 'em! My little guy is singing in the choir at the mall tomorrow. I managed to get someone to cover my class so I can run down there and watch.

OTG - glad the orthotics thing worked. Nice when it happens like that.

I showed my ring for "show and tell" at school today. The kids were very excited that I am getting married, expecially since it's to Mr. D! They all wanted to come to the wedding but I told them it would just be a small ceremony with my family. They said, "but we're just like your kids!".

trek - hmm, it could almost be done. In the staff musical we're working on, dh has to actually get down on one knee and propose to me. He thought for awhile that he might do it for real during the show. Aack. Not sure how I would have reacted to that. Anyway, knowing the moms in my class, I have no doubt they'll have something up their sleeve before the end of the year. They are just like that. Last year, they gave me a $250 GC to the LBS. I kept the room mom's son in my class this year.

The other reason why it would be nice to do something like you mentioned is because Dh and I have our classes as buddies and we have PE together twice a week, plus one other activity so our kids see us together a lot. It might be kind of cool to have some sort of joint celebration before the end of the school year. We'll have to think about that.

Oh, and I have grade 3, he has grade 6.

In Australia there are tons of stories each year about folks who wander off the 4WD tracks and don't return.

There was an incident late last year here in Western Australia-Three folks decided to drive up to work in one of the mines & took a wrong turn. They found thier bodies three days later.

When we drove to Melbourne we had two large petrol holders( i know what they look like but can't remember the exact term for them) full of water just on the odd chance we broke down. Not something you want to do in +45c..

Anywho..KG it's nice to hear you & your dearie are getting married!!

Tomorrow is "get everything ready for the 12hr"day-I have it off just to ensure all our "stuff" is put aside in one area so Ian doesn't have to stress too much. Ian's doing the 12hr solo and anything i can do to make him less stressed is good..

Wow, I don't know how many of Mr. Kim's pieces I've seen on Cnet...It's sad. Stranded for almost two weeks- I don't know if I could stay with the car that long...

The area where Mr Kim was found is near the california oregon border, very rugged terrain and high altitudes. The roads he took are closed every winter but they used a map that didn't give that information. Then they took a wrong
turn and ended up on i think a forest service road! his biggest mistake was to get off the road he started following streams in country so severe that you
had to walk IN the stream to continue. This made him quite wet and probably
wore him down fast.
Some of the roads in this part of the country are still snow covered (and closed) in June.

That is a very sad story about the Kims. Just imagine if the mom couldn't have nursed the kids - I don't even like to think about it. My winter stuff stays in my car year round. I don't even want to take it out to go get my vehicle tomorrow.

KG - so cute your kiddies want to be there for you guys. I hope you're able to work out a little something with them.
