Another name for it is "farmer blow." I learned it from a runner years ago and don't think twice about it anymore while riding. A quick check to make sure there's no one right behind you, which direction the wind is blowing (you really don't want it to land back on you - very embarrasing) and just go for it. You might feel weird the first few times, but it quickly becomes one of those things that you just do without thinking about, like clicking in and out of your pedals. My mother still thinks it is gross and disgusting and VERY unladylike, but then, she never rode a bike in cold, windy weather with her nose wanting to drip constantly.
