    Hi Elk,
I have 3 FZ Shaks which I wear one of almost daily. I like the extra venting of the FZ, but am considering getting a HZ shak while they are on sale. Other than the softness, which do your prefer?
    Thanks.

OMG, this is tooooo funny!!!! I say this only because I am a fiber artist, and I am SURROUNDED by WOOL every single day! It's not like you ladies are talking about, though...it's raw, unprocessed wool that I dye, spin into yarn, and then do all sorts of knitterly things with. In the fiber world, we call it "wool porn"!!

Over the next couple days, I'll be getting a fleece from a sheep named "Lambchop"...I got his fleece last year, and will be getting it again this year. It's the kind of wool that you just can sit and fondle; get your fingers covered in lanolin...marrrrrvelous! Here's a little "wool porn" for you all to enjoy!

Oooh you just reminded me. I was driving through - I think it was Hill City, SD? - and I see a sign on a store for "Wool and More." Turned out to be a combination everything-wool/antiques shop. They had yarn and hats and sweaters and blankets and wool insoles for shoes...and then cool old stuff that wasn't overpriced.

It would be my favorite place in the world if it wasn't 6 hours away

I love those kinds of places! So yeah, I'm a "wool weenie" too...and I really want to design a cycling sweater to-die-for!

Bottom line: wool is an AMAZING fiber. There is nothing like it, man-made or other wise. I would like to see some wool/lycra blends, though...to increase shape retention and "bounce-back" after stretching.

Ooh, pretty! *Imagines pretty socks and things*

This morning has made me decide that there needs to be more wool in my life. Now, if I could afford the stuff, it'll be awesome. While I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of it--I can wear the stuff from around September until June both on and off the bike, and it means I might be able to turn the thermostat down a bit--it's not cheap and I'm living on a grad student budget.

    Keeping my eye on sales...

On another note: I have some lovely hand-knit wool socks that I made myself. Fraternal twins, but very pretty colors. They're not wash-resistant enough for daily wear or for the bike.

Hi group, my name is Grog, and I am a woolweenie.

It has been weeks since I have last taken off my Ibex Ultimate Guide Sweater in blue, and when it's really cold I layer it with some Smartwool. My dear partner's mother brought me back Smartwool striped socks from a trip and I would have exchanged my mom for her at the moment I opened that package. I have been thinking about those loose tights day and night since they were introduced to me...

    *sigh*

I don't have a wool problem either. I just don't have enough dresser drawers
and my closet is too small.

Lisa, that was a good 12 step list. My husband was VERY impressed.

    Hi my name is madscot
I first bought my first piece of wool last spring from REI. First I saw the smart wool and I thought this is the perfect zip neck it is what i have searched for high and low- it looks tight, warm, and black. But then I saw it was too expensive. but then REI brought out their own brand and sent me a coupon. and then it happened.
then I bought the blue zip neck. I didn't need a blue one. I needed a black crew neck
So I bought one from icebreaker. It is warm and thick. thicker than smar wool. more expenive than smart wool
But now what I really need is a thick skiiing veryday sweater. The Ultimate guide sweater in stock is too large for me. I am still lost and confused
So I bought the icebreaker ignition pullover. It isn't quite what I am lookiing for but it will do.
And now I am a poor college student wearing a sweater that is a third of my rent.

thank you wool weenies for helping me in that at least I am poor but when I am evicted I will stay warm through the warmth of merino.

Hi KnottedYet and other "woolweenies"! I couldn't resist jumping into this discussion and I hope you all won't mind my presence. I need to first say that I work for Ibex, so obviously I am highly biased toward the wonders of wool and specifically of Ibex merino for cycling and other pursuits. I see that some of you have discovered a couple of our most popular "lifestyle" type pieces, like the Ultimate Guide and the Loose Tights, but has no-one been turned on to our jerseys (like the La Luna) or shorts and knickers (El Fitos)? I'm hungry for feedback, ideas, suggestions, etc., so I'll be on the lookout for wool-for-cycling related thoughts, be they complimentary or critical. I love cycling, too, so I'm looking forward to being in this forum (my first one!) Thanks for listening, and happy trails to those of you who are riding through the winter. Maybe after living in Vermont for a couple more years I'll be tough enough to commute to work in the snow!

Many of us have the cycling knickers! I wear them or my Terry Precision skorts when I ride. If I ever decided to go to a pair of plain shorts again, I'd buy the Ibex shorts.

The jerseys are too expensive for me. I don't buy jerseys anyway, because I need long sleeves all the time and because they are too much money to spend on a "single use" thing.

My usual cycling top is my Ibex Norgie long sleeve crew. If it's really hot I just wear a tank-top with my long sleeved SPF shirt (Kokatat) over it. I would love to be able to get the athletic-style Ibex tank top again, with built-in bra.

Shagge - go through the entire "apparel" forum, there are many other discussions of wool clothing.

And the wool-weenies will be HAPPY to bend your ear! Sizing! Colors! Styles! We are your ideal test market: active, opinionated, and erudite!
