I'm awake. Barely. I need coffee. And a brownie. Gotta go buy some rice-flour brownie mix.

Why is it when someone nudges you (literally or electronically) cuz they can't sleep, "Hey, wake up, I can't sleep!" YOU end up wide awake, and THEY go off to blissful slumber? Wonder if it's some old pack-animal instinct: when we are feeling disturbed and anxious in the night, someone's gotta be awake and watching for predators.

Yup ladies, I am the meerkat on sentry duty for jackals and snakes and boogymen while the rest of my meerkat colony sleeps contentedly knowing they are safely under my watchful gaze.

A duty I am happy to perform, after some coffee.

'Course it's almost time to get up here anyway.

Today is exDPITA's birthday. Now THERE'S a boogyman to watch out for...

    Nanci, happy birthday yesterday!

Did anyone see the Leonids? It was cloudy here.

Yesterday I went to a friend's house to bike with her and her two kids. Her 3 year old was talking about how much he wanted to ride in the bike trailer, and we were planning to put the 3 month old in the trailer as well. So I get to her house and the conversation goes like this:

Her: I need to pump before we leave.
Me: Your tires or your boobs?
Her: Actually, both (good thing I reminded her about the tires)
Me: OK, I'll pump the tires, you pump the boobs.
Her: Can we trade? I'm tired of pumping boobs.
At which point her wife cracks up, picturing me pumping her boobs while
she pumps tires. The breast pump is electric - it wouldn't have been too
hard. But alas, I stuck with pumping tires.

The next comedy of errors is when we attempt to put both kids in the bike trailer
and discover that the infant's car seat takes up almost the whole trailer. Next
plan: Take the kids one at a time. And do what with the other kid? Final plan:
one of us rides the 3-year-old to the high school while the other one walks there
with the infant. The 3-year-old wants me to pull him in the trailer, so I try to
attach my bike to it and discover that my rear wheel computer sensor is in
the way. So I attach her bike and put on her shoes (good thing we are the same size)
and ride 1 mile to the high school, then ride round and round the parking lot and over the speed bumps. Nolan loves it. Friend and baby show up. She rides the bike around the parking lot a couple times, so she can say that she did it this year. I ride around the parking lot some more and then back to the house. We take the child's enjoyment as the measure of a successful ride.

Because I rode my friend's bike, this happened to be the first time I used SPD pedals or STI shifters (other than working on them). Made me appreciate my Speedplays and downtube shifters. Now I see why people complain about front derailleurs. And braking was strange with levers that move back and forth as well as in and out.
Oil is good, grease is better.

It was the talk of land-legs and sea-legs that set me off.

Knot- I'm with ya. DGF gets up, goes to work, and if I'm the smallest bit 'awake' I'm going to be wide awake when she leaves. Fun, fun. Where's X? I wonder if she'll magically manage a hangover this morning but will lie about it and say "Oh, no, I'm fine" while clutching her head etc.

007 was good, but Bond wasn't as smooth as he always used to be. The other movies portray him with this very dry, smooth sense of humor, well-thought-out everything, and whatnot... this one seemed more to be geared to the average 'action-movie audience'... lots of fire and explosions, a bit less wit, etc etc. That and I had to complain that if this is 'supposedly' the first chronologically, wtf are they doing with palms and cell phones etc etc?
Bond has left the cold war... *sigh*

I remember the days of pumping my boobs. Not my idea of a good time.

    I'd rather pump tires.

Snap - cute hubby! **wink, wink, growl, wink**

DAR - cute little boy, looks a lot like you. **where's the Aaaaawwww smilie?**

Knot - Sorry about the undies situation there. I can't go near the Jockey store without spending at least $70. I guess I could risk it and leave the CC outside in the car. Or maybe at home. Locked in the safe. With and armed guard on watch. And a mean looking dog named 'Razor'.

BMo3 - you wild woman you. You can really put 'em away when you need to. 'WE' most definitely got obliterated enough for 2 people last night. You had a fantastic time, I must say. Man, when you let your hair down, you really let it down. I have some interesting new bruises and can't figure out how they got there. hmmm... must have been the mosh pit.

Nanci - I like Zed too. Also Ziba (friend's name - means 'beautiful' in Persian), Zack, Zephyr, Zahara, Zeke, Zion (nod to Matrix movie and a biblical reference), Zander

Yeah, that's what we call them here too Kel, but I was being as good a girl as I could be in my inebriated state. (yeah, you're right, Carrie made me change it ) No, I didn't wear them last night. I had a hard enough time navigating on lower heels. Besides, we knew that we'd be up dancing too. Don't want to end up in my own hospital. Can hear it now... ER Doc: "How'd it happen?" EMT: "f*ck me boots." Doc: "Ahhhhh, yes of course. Tell xray to get plenty of pics, this is gonna be fun for a while." Believe me, the less they know, the better off I am.

Kit - So glad you blew off some steam too. Thought I was gonna have to call ya and give you my Bronx accent again. We don't want to have to go there again, now do we? Sake and sushi, huh? Wish I could have been there. Looove sushi. Band was great as usual. Went to another bar after that too. (I needed to sober up a bit, don't cha know. ) Sang one for ya last night woman. Did ya hear it way out there? The rest of what's in my head will wait. I'll have to PM ya later instead.

I've already had b-fast, showered, scrubbed the fur off my teeth (blech) ran a load of laundry, cleaned the kitchen and now get to relax for a bit. I'm so happy I don't get hangovers. (There is a God and she loves me.) I'm riding with AllezGirl and Offthegrid later today up by AG's house. Was gonna try to get a local friend to come along, but she's still getting over her bronchitis. Haven't met OTG in person yet, should be cool. So nice having PA TE'ers close enough to ride with. Supposed to be a paved trail that we can use our road bikes on. Then dinner after. BTW, hey, OTG... did ya get your internet fixed yet? You know, if you molest the cable dude a little, you'll get better service.

Well, I'm off to see the wizard. Have a great day ladies and be safe.

Oh, wait, hah, I see that! Knot, back away from the brownies. You know what that leads to. Take it slow and no one will get hurt. That's it, ease away. Ok now, go phone a friend or something dear, it's much more satisfying. (Phew, potential chocolate tragedy averted.)

Glad I stayed off the thread last night

Well, I'm glad I stayed off the thread last night. Hubby is gone and it seems when he is gone I tend to eat all the bad things. Pizza, chocolate, etc. Well, sure enough last night I had huge cravings for chocolate and almost whipped up a batch of brownies - but I think I was too lazy and didn't want to waste them since I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow! My will power won out but if I had gotten on this thread I'm sure I would have been doomed!

Nanci Glad you had a nice birthday - Zorro is good - how about Zither?

All the pics are great! No one looks fat so stop all the complaining - you look great all of you!

BMO3 - A couple of years ago I decided to go red - dark unnatural red! It was great and I had fun with it but I finally decided to try to go back to my natural color (No not gray although that is what it is now) more like dishwater blond! It took me a whole year to get it that color cause I didn't want to have pink hair or just destroy my hair by bleaching it. So over the last year, I have been every color in the book - it was actually kind of fun.

You'd like that wouldn't you. Well, tough, little lady. I bounced out of bed at 7:30, grabbed a shower, made b-fast, brushed, grabbed my stuff and headed home to greet y'all with a wide grin and very clear head. So there.

But what I really want is for him to be on a wrought iron stand in the living room like Choco and Inez, so I can look at him all the time. But there is not room, because BF has this giant storage container that won't go anywhere else. But I could put it somewhere temporarily until we get the second shed when we get our tax refunds, so the MC can go in the shed and the lawnmower can stop living in a tent like a homeless person...I _could_ buy a 10 and move him up to a 20 later- but not much fits in a 10 as an adult- so then I'd be stuck with two 10's, since I don't envision Addy as a permanent resident, unless she has a change of eating habits very soon.
My vote is to go for the set-up you want and move BF's container elsewhere until you get the second shed.

I hope Addy eats like a good girl.

Mornin' ladies. I am up - was nice and snuck out so as not to wake dh since I've been tossing and turning since 6. Need coffee now but he's the one who makes it, guess I'll have to wait. Trying HARD to avoid eating brownies for breakfast. Argh. How did I manage to gain 2 lbs in one day I wanna know??!!

X - you are one partying girl! How do you do it? I used to get brutal hangovers, even quit drinking for almost 20 years because they were so bad. Don't get them at all anymore, just tired or a bit of a headache that goes away with drugs.

DebW - LOL on pumping tires and boobs - sounds like a lotta work to go riding. Probably why I didn't ride when my kids were little.

Nanci - I wondered if that was Dill. Have you decided on a name for the new snake yet?

Pirate talk, Scottish talk, X-Kits code, Knot deleting every second post - I can barely keep up with the plain english let alone the weird stuff! I'm with you BMo3, I feel uncool

Well back to the report cards. Going to finish them today so I can watch the Grey Cup this afternoon. Nothing like a sub-zero Canadian fotoball game. You watching it, CC?? No, I guess you'll probably be sleeping...

Ah, fall. I'm so, so sorely tempted to go out squirrel hunting, clean, and throw together a stew, but my luck, DGF would somehow 'know'. She feeds squirrels off ouf back porch. By hand. And names them. All. Me? I think they all look alike, and though I've fed them by hand, I feel like one of those cats that sits in front of the bird feeder the *whole* time. I don't think it's 'far off' hasenfeffer. hmm.
Must be the wisconsin girl in me. I see naked trees and cold winds, and I'm thinking "Gotta go hunting! Squirrel! Venison! Hasenfeffer! Quail! Turkey!"

...but being in OR it's turning into "Um... Squab? Squirrel? maybe Quail if I'm sneaky... and the neighbor has peacocks and they *Act* like turkeys... *sigh*"

My upstairs neighbor has been more-or-less living at her gf's house. She just came home for something, and the sound of her walking around on my ceiling was very startling!

She's hardly ever home anymore. I'm hoping she keeps her apt, cuz she's a really nice neighbor. (and not just cuz she's gone all the time, she's also just really nice.)

Edit: well, there she goes, back down the stairs and off to the gf's again. Hi! Bye!

Bikingmomof3 "I used to party very, very well. Never had a hangover in my life. "

I've had 1 (count them, one) hangover. That was over 30 years ago.

One (1) was enough. My high school buds Ann, Kathy, Mary and Sarah set out on "project get Trek drunk" and succeeded.

Thank you all for allowing me to be hung over vicariously.

Knott, is this the upstairs neighbor who you thought is such a "catch" that I should come up there to meet her because her GF is not treating her well? Is this the same GF that she's off with all the time? Or another one. I hope she's found another one, who treats her well

My neighbor, on the other hand, is sanding and has been as well as power nailing from way to early on a Sunday. Sounds like getting ready to paint. There've been lots of contractors in and out, sometimes parked *ahem* in front of my car port. He's probably getting ready to turn the place. Hope when he sells the next family does *not* have a kid who teases my dog.

Ah, the joy of living though a remodel. Oh joy.

Ah TE TD, there's the drifters, our neighbors, coworkers....no one is safe.

Kel - Actually, it's not like me at all. I'm always the DD when we go out. I keep everyone safe so they can let loose. There's just a lot going on right now for me. Not everything gets put on TD, ya know. She was nice enough to let me out of my cage for a while. Just needed some TLC in person. All better, at least for the moment.

ok, I got PM'd about pics. So yes, I'll take my camera and get pics of the 3 PA girls. Sheesh. Can't imagine why you'd want to see us but...

outta here, chicas. be safe and don't let Knot delete anything while I'm gone.
