Warm and cozy feet!

Hey - just thought I'd share something new I found at REI that really seems to work. I got a pair of Stormsock socks. I got the "hyperlite" weight ones. They are really really thin - they fit into my regular cycling shoes fine (and I can't even layer socks in those) and though they have some seams they are flat and don't chafe. They are waterproof, breathable and slightly fleecy on the inside. They got the real test today and my feet stayed warm and
cozy for the whole 2 hour ride. My toes were a little damp at the end, but as with all breathable materials not all of the sweat can usually get out. Otherwise I was pretty dry and still nice and warm. On a non-wet day they are warm and windproof. I am very pleased with them. They don't stretch too much so you do have to get a size that will go over your ankle. I bought smalls which are listed as 4-6 1/2, and they are pretty tight on my size 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 foot. They are pretty reasonably priced (compared to other
waterproof/breathable socks) at $25

Yep - hope we weren't too much trail hogs. We have all the new folks out and they are still a little nervous about riding side by side.

You weren't trail-hogs at all! Two abreast works fine on that trail. I just wondered if you were in that group. We were on a bright blue Burley tandem going the other way. Should've yelled out "Is Eden in there?" but not that quick a thinker, apparently...

I was told about these "socks" after my experience on the West Yellowstone/Old Faithful ride, where my feet got very wet and very cold. I bought a pair of the hyperlight, but found that they weren't warm enough for 35F days and colder. I went back and bought the mid-weight and last week used the "thicker" socks. They worked pretty good...my feet get really cold. But I am happy with them. I have a wide foot, with a high instep and tend to go with a size 7 shoe...6.5 if I can get a wide width, sometimes even a 7.5 size...I got the small socks....They are tight to get on because they don't stretch too much, but I don't think I would want the medium because then I would have "too much sock" left over....

I should have mentioned it was in the mid 40's today and raining .
I also wear neoprene booties that keep some heat in too, but do nothing to keep the water out.

I used to wear the neoprene booties but it drove me nuts that they frayed so easily when you walk, and also that they get so sopping wet. Someone at REI told about Sugoi Resistor Booties, and I'm a total convert. They are reasonably warm, keep your feet VERY dry compared to the neoprene, and don't fray when you walk on them. http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...ry_rn=40004205
