Thanks for that. We had an assembly at school yesterday and as usual, I was all teary-eyed....

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We were doing yard work at the rental house as the planes did their flyby's. Even saw the one peel off for the missing man formation.

Thank you. That is one of the few verses my grandfather would quote.
Frends know gud humors when dey is hear it. ~ Da Crockydiles of ZZE.
I was asked to give the benediction at our city's Veterans Day service. What a humbling experience. I was teary eyed through the whole program, from walking through the cemetery to the sound of bagpipes, the landing of an Apache helicopter to seeing the sweet seniors who comprise our local American Legion chapter exchange the flags at our City's Veterans Memorial. As you said, lest we forget. . .

Let's not forget the sacrifices of the young ones, too.
This is my son the veteran, with his son who born 10 weeks early while his father was in Iraq, on the day he returned home. You'll forgive a mother's pride, won't you?
