Yes, things can happen in an instant.

Last Friday my Beetle got hit by a street sweeper at an intersection. He ran a red light! It spun me around and I slapped up against the door and suffered some pretty severe whiplash on my left side. I'm better now, thanks. My car may be totalled, don't know yet.

However, the whole time I was thinking about how my son's mother-in-law lost almost everything a month or so ago, when on the interestate, she topped a hill and rounded a curve, in the rain, and ran straight into the back of a flatbed semi. She took the brunt of the injuries to her face. She is now vegetative to some extent. I don't know the proper words to describe her condition. They told her family she would never wake up, but now she has improved enough that she recognizes our baby grandson and tries to get up when she sees him. But, she will never fully recover. She is only 38.

So, life is short. Be as careful as you can, but enjoy your life. Sometimes you just can't avoid that street sweeper.

I think everyday is a gift, even the bad ones. They can hurt like h*ll, but even they have worth.
Hard lessons learned through others hurt less but it's the ones that happen to us that tend to stick longer. Not sure which I prefer, but either way, I just hope I can learn from them the first time. Once is more than enough to deal with.
