Cycling goals for 2007

Maureen~ www.stlbiking.com might have some Katy Trail information on it. There's also a message board that might have some people on it that have ridden the trail. I've ridden sections of the Katy Trail~ it's really nice and there are some wineries along it, also!

I would very much like to beat al least 1/2 of male competitors on some competition... So they'd hopefully stop saying, "noone expects you to be better, after all you're just a girl" ....

My goals for 2007:
Ride a ton with my dear husband (kind of obvious for those that know me!) and put on at least 2000 miles this next season
Complete 3 sprint tris and one Olympic distance tri
Complete the 100 mile Tour of the Ozarks
Continue to organize "slower social rides" for those interested
Ride a ton more with my husband!

Katy Trail is great, Maureen. They actually sponsor a supported ride. I'll try to find the information after I teach class!

When is the Tour of the Ozarks? I've heard that's a pretty tough ride. Does it start in Rolla?

My goals are pretty small compared to all this. Buy a road bike; get my husband to buy a bike. Continue riding with the club and try to do at least 1500 miles by the end of 2007. Hope that a lighter bike will make doing the Perrysville ride a little easier (I'm a hill slug).

Maureen: They don't have the dates yet for 2007, but DNR hosted a ride, supported, starting at St. Charles and ending in Clinton. You can check the website - www.bikekatytrail.com - for more info. They also list places you can catch the train to get to your car and stuff like that.

Teresa: Tour of the Ozarks isn't TOO bad (some killer hills but GORGEOUS scenery!). It starts at Buehler Park in Rolla (usually a police escort out of town). Their website - http://www.touroftheozarks.org/ - has maps to help give an idea of where each route goes. They have 12, 25, 50, and 100 mile routes. It's really fun! I hope you will be able to ride it next year. It isn't a race, so you just go at your own pace.

All righty; time to get back to work to help pay for more bike stuff!

I've found the social folks are more "ride to eat" than "eat to ride" i.e Find a nice resturant that doesn't mind sweaty people showing up on bikes, and organize a ride to it.

One of the local bike shops has a list serve and we just post our route, average speed, and where we'll meet up. I've joined the local "guys" on a ride (and was promptly dropped) and they are way, WAY too serious for me. We like to look at scenery and ride for fun, take pictures, etc.(helps us to remember why we like to ride). We generally start on a Saturday morning, say 6:30-7:00 a.m. (we aren't doing this now, since it's still dark at that time), and have a designated halfway point where we meet to make sure everyone's there - we call this "no rider left behind". We usually go 35-60 miles average 14-17 mph. Having the list serve really helps get these going.

We've also found that each ride is joined by someone who didn't want to go with the "guys" because they are so fast (22-26 mph

). I would like more women to join us as I'm usually the token female. I do, however, LOVE passing some young male while going up hill. Makes me KNOW I'm strong!!

The first ride we set up we had ourselves and 2 other people. We average 10-12 now. We've found that drivers treat us much better when there are a number of us.

Mine:

1. 3,000+ miles next year. I fell about 500 miles short this year due to my riding buddy being so sick.
2. Kick the Tri-County Hillhopper's butt in February. Usually it kicks mine.

3. Try mountain biking (hmmm need to buy a bike)
4. Duathalon
5. Keep up running to cross train. I found myself casting it aside this year and really losing my base for running. Now I am not enjoying it.
