    Half Marathon Quickie Training!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Ironically unfortunate, have a half marathon run coming up in 3 weeks time & weather and health had inhibited training progress so far ; any suggestions on how to do a crash training regimen without incurring any injuries ? hoping to complete within 2 hr 15 min or so.

Well it really depends on what your current mileage per week is. Have you ever ran half-marathons before?? Where are you starting from??

Runner's World has a few plans for half-marathons:

But I think that if you have no volume under your belt (like at least 15-20 miles/week) it might not be such a good or safe idea...

You can procrastinate at many things in life, but not at training for marathons or, for that matter, half-marathons.

Thanks Grog ; one of the most ill-prepared races for me indeed.
Been clocking barely 10km / week lately. running this race may be a dream now.

    Hi Morphine,

I am NOT an expert or even a big-time runner, but I don't think it would be very safe for you to run a half-marathon right now if you don't have the base training for it. I think if you had 5-6 weeks, being a runner already, it could help, but attempting to run more than 20 km at this stage would seem like a recipe for an injury to me. Maybe you could try walking it, but even then it requires preparation, and it will take you more than 2h15m.

Often half-marathon races have a 10k race on the side. If it's the case for you, maybe you can switch? That would be a totally realistic goal I think.

Yup, sad to say, I'm also recovering from a bad bout of bronchitis ; after having pushed the limit participating in a recent triathlon (swimming) despite being in compromised state. Certainly, will be better to forego this half marathon and pass it to the regulars than waste it. Incidentally, this is one of Singapore's annual race event ; Standard Chartered Marathon, some of you who are passing this way may want to mark this on your calendar next year
