    I'm afraid you'll get as many answers as there are people. I started riding clipless in August with SPD 105s and have been quite happy with them. They are tension adjustable and clip on both sides of the pedal. I would suggest that you get the cleats that clip out both ways rather than just one. There is a name for that, but I'm drinking a toddy and my brain has shut down for the weekend.

    Lynda - Since you have already had foot surgery, my vote goes for Speedplay Frogs. The frogs will fit well on your new shoes and offer you some float. I have found the float very helpful for my right foot which already had the surgery also.

    I second the vote for Speedplay Frogs.

    They are extremely easy to deal with, and very kind to my grumpy hip and knee.

    And the cleats fit beautifully in my mtb shoes. (I ride a road bike with mtb shoes and what used to be considered mtb pedals)
