Rain, rain, rain. Well, the Sugoi booties work, and I figured out that I was running about 280 watts on my ride in, but dang, the rain. I have to stop at the bike shop on the way home to get my rear derailleur fixed - after having the bike in the shop for three days (and missing the last three days of cold but sunny riding weather), I get it back in time to ride in the rain and find the shifting sloppier than it was when I brought it in. Arg.

Still, any day riding is better than a day spent in the car.

    a little bloodshed!

And the summer went so well--no falls, no big issues. Went for a short ride on the local bike path along the Carrabassett River (cyclocross bike) and found a lot of damage from the recent storms and wind. There were a lot of branches down and some major washouts along our usually super trail. Some branches I stopped and moved out of the way, but in one case I started to ride out around a fallen tree but the edge of the trail was soft and had wet wet leaves. Soooo I sunk, slipped and crashed down on butt and elbow. Much skin loss and blood (but it looked worse than it was)! Twisted the whole shifter assembly about 3 inches toward the wheel. But the worst part was my pride!! As far as clipping out, I was down before that could have even popped into my brain!

Got to keep going though--my goal is to ride at least a little on the roads every month til March, for a full 12 month ride record! January will surely be a challenge up here in the snowy mountains of Maine.

    Rode to work this morning

Just around 4 miles or so - it feels pretty cold around 25 this morning.

I have a Bicycle Advisory Meeting tonight till 6:00 but I have my lights to go home with. It won't be 25 yet either - thank goodness.

When I finished my work today, I had just enough time to do a 13 mile loop ride before it got dark. It was 60 degrees, pretty nice out.
I wore the right layers to feel warm, but....one mile out I realized I was wearing my non-chamois tights. As it turned out it was not uncomfortable because it was only a 13 mile ride.
Halfway through the ride it was getting dim out and I stopped and fished out my Blinkie light and put it on my back saddlebag. Man is it bright! That bright steady red light made me feel a lot safer as I finished my ride in the dusk.
My leg muscles are still sore from the really hilly 26 miles the other day. But sore in a good way.
