    Scorpios... Aren't scorpios generally sorta... dark? What happened to you?
    Another one I like (as with just about anything from Dark Horse comics...) Sin City (<3 Marv!)
    ... but Transmetropolitan is my favorite...
    Spider Jerusalem is a lot like Hunter S. Thompson- crazy, intelligent, and dark as can be.

    Ya know, you're right. When I was about your age (I'm guessing you're around 22?) I was much darker and cynical. You have no idea how much I've changed over the years. But it's too long of a story and way too hard to talk about.

    Peace!

    I dressed up as a zucchini once. It was a really really lame costume. All I did was wear these wool-lined army-green overalls I found and tell people that I was a zucchini. I suck at dressing up, and it was the best I could do.

    Lise + J. Update!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~sigh~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    J. is wonderful!
    Oh, how I love this phase of the relationship... I know it doesn't last, and good thing, as I need more sleep than this, but it has been sooooooo long since I felt like this. Last time I felt like this was in '94, with S., of whom you've heard. But that had an element of craziness to it that this does not. If I had a day off, she would just not go to work in order to be with me. Yep, it was off from the start. J. stays up way too late with me, but leaves, goes home, gets up, goes to work/school/etc. Has a life, and it's not me.
    I was tired after the long work weekend, but I did get three 1 hr naps in that 24 shift. Came home and slept a few more hours, got up and made some coffee. For those who were around for the "my heart's beating very strangely" episode this summer, you know I don't drink much coffee anymore. So I was really needing it. Just as I reached for the mug, Isaac the cat jumped onto the counter, knocking off the coffee, shattering the mug, splashing coffee everywhere. Me, him, wall, floor, dishwasher.... I screamed. I am not proud. But I screamed "NOOOOOOOO! Damn it!" Then I cleaned up and made another cup of coffee. Isaac was drenched, but I let him handle himself. He didn't seem to get too wired, I'm glad to say.
    Made a pumpkin pie, broiled salmon, couscous, green beans, and salad with candied walnuts, cranberries, and gorgonzola. Way easier than it sounds, or is that just because I'm happy? J. came over, we ate, hung out and watched part of A Walk On the Moon. But when Diane Lane and Viggo Mortensen started making out, well, so did we. What a great evening! But I think I need another cup of coffee this morning. Another beautiful day here, although 20 degrees colder, as predicted.
    This is cool--the picture on the movie was fuzzy. Normally I have a great picture. It's a big TV, and I never watch it, except for movies. I was dismayed and baffled. J. said, "It looks like a cable problem." Got up, looked at the back of the TV, adjusted a cable, fixed the problem. Wow. I would've just cleaned the disc and figured the whole thing was "broken". ("Broken", for me, means, "I have no idea what's wrong.") It may sound silly, but I love it that he knew what was wrong, got up, and fixed it.
    Paris--Yes! We're planning to go mid March, when he has spring break from grad school. It's easy for me to request a week off that far in advance.
    I'm already thinking of scaling back my triathlon plans for next year. I am not sure I want to be training for a 1/2 IM when I could be spending time with this guy. I'm thinking I may do Accenture at the Int'l distance instead, and a couple of sprints through the season. Seriously. I've had the pleasure of four years of training and racing triathlons, and no pleasure of dating someone wonderful for...oh...say...a decade! Things got bad with S after about a year, although I stayed for six. Then over four years of nothing, 2 1/2 years of online dating with seven months of largely frustrating involvement with T. in there....yeah, I may prefer snuggling with J. over 1/2 IM training.
    ..........................
    But enough about me: FISHDR! Glad you resurfaced! Glad the fishfry are doing well! Your new home sounds pretty great. Have you started with the new job? Remember when you were nervous even to go for it? YAY FISH/BEE.DR!!!
    Yay, Lise!
    How marvellous!
    I hear ya on the "went bad after one year but stuck around for 7." So glad both you and J have outside lives! (I know that sounds weird, but you know what I mean.)
    .......
    SKnot and I watched "V for Vendetta" together. At some point he turned to me with wiiiiiide eyes and a struck expression and said, "Mom! This is what is happening in the United States RIGHT NOW!"
    That movie started some very good conversations.
    Alright, can anyone join this thread or do I have to just keep lurking?!
    Lise, I just had to pop on and say how happy I am for you! It is so nice to hear how happy you are with J. as an added bonus in your life. ((hugs)) your way and I'm living vicariously through you these days. I am too frustrated with dating on this end.
    Nanci, congrats on the latest addition. I hope she makes it safe and sound to you as quickly as possible. Make sure to post a picture.
    Fishdr, glad to hear the move and new job went well. Can't wait to see Halloween pix.
    Kit, girl, I can not even pretend to know what movie you and xrayed were talking about, even after a couple pages of reading backwards. But your posts still crack me up!
    I saw the quadrathlon posted on the Badger State Games website yesterday. I'd like to do that race at the beginning of February. Now all I have to do is start running again and learn how to xcountry ski. No problem! It's a 5k each of running, mtb, snow shoeing and xc (any style). And it's by age group which is cool. At least it would give me something to shoot for in the winter so I keep working out.
    <sings> "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts"
    We're dressing up at work. I'm assigned the Island Girl costume. I get to wear a coconut bra and grass skirt.
    Oooh. Feel the enthusiasm. Feel my thrilled participation. Whoopee.
    I'm wearing long underwear with my grass skirt.
    I don't like dressing up at work.
    Ah, sorry to the one I offended on a TD post early this am. Thanks for the PM. I just took out that whole part of the post to be safe. I had a bout of insomnia and get too real sometimes. At least I don't get cranky when I'm tired so that helps.
    Anyway, Lise, so glad it's going great with J. He sounds like a wonderful man who obviously can appreciate a wonderful woman when he sees her. Don't assume the honeymoon stage has to go away just because of past relationships. It's all in your control to keep it fresh and fun if your hearts are still there. A tender caress, a little strategically placed pinch, a nibble on an ear, holding hands like you're teenagers, making out on the couch, getting/giving a nice massage... doesn't have to stop, dear.
    mtbdarby - Welcome to the TD world. Wear your helmet and gloves, it can get kinda rough in here. V for Vendetta. There's no way to explain it so you just gotta watch it for yourself. (I know Kit, 11/5 I promise.)
    Knotted - Very smart kid there. Most adults don't get the political undertones. Must get it from his Mom. As for the costume, ok, we gotta have a pic of that. Pleeeeeease. As for me, I'm masquerading as an x-ray tech. (Sorry, I just don't have the heart for it today.) I did get my haircut shorter this am, so I guess I will be kinda going in disguise.
    Have a fun day everyone. Be safe.
    X.
    Wishing all a peaceful Samhein
    I'm pretty sure that's what my ancestors celebrated. And keeping in memory the midwives who died through the centuries, accused of practicing witchcraft when they saved mothers' lives.
    .......................
    Darby--good to see you here! Really? You haven't posted on TD before? Welcome. Hang in there. Wasn't there a paramedic around for awhile? Or was that someone else. I'm not in the "it will happen when you least expect it" school of thought, since if I weren't looking, HARD, I never would've met J. But when we did meet, it became easy. May it be so for you.
    .......................
    XR--thanks for the encouragement. This guy is so thoughtful and inventive, and I can be so, too. We've both had some hard times, so we each know how to appreciate each other. Why not keep it going?
    .......................
    KN--sorry. I am cracking up at the costume you have to wear. Even funnier that it's assigned. ~snicker~ sorry. Couldn't help myself.
    Island Girl will have vengence!
    Yeah, go ahead. Laugh. Keep it up y'all, and I'll come shake my coconuts at you!!!
    (maybe I'll be Butch Island Girl and wear my steel-toe boots and my jeans and army-green tank top under the costume. Somebody's Fantasy Island version of Island Girl, I'm sure.... uh, could be mine... )
    hi everyone. I am most unhalloweened today. DH who loves halloweeen does the pumpkins, decorates (a little) buys the candy, fusses over the children is still in Arizona. Normally when he's out of town we chat a lot but this time he's had a lot of trouble with cell phone coverage. Not exactly coverage, he says he has a great signal, but still can't get calls through. he's calling it congestion. Anyone know of a good antihistamine for a cell phone?
    So I am feeling terribly lonely as I prepare to embark on this big exciting trip.
    He's peeved at me because i tend to be clingy, but I yam what i yam. A lot of my friends have already put me into the "she's on vacation" category, so they are not communicating "oh, i thought you left"
    Sorry KY, i can't imagine them MAKING me dress up for Halloween. here, we celebrate Halloween by bringing everyone's children's candy to work and for 2-3 weeks, we have a sugar fest.
    Lise, your romance is a wonderful thing, thanks for sharing it with us. You are being so tasteful and sweet. as often as we can, DH and i try to rekindle this kind of thing. Doesn't work when you take separate vacations though.
    mtdarby, xcountry skiing is the only type i've ever tried, and it was a blast. I found it to be a great way to stay warm in 20 degree weather.
    Kit, my older son (who I think is older than you) was born on Nov 5th, and he is a non-dark scorpio. (Aries Ascendant cheers it up immensely) My younger son is a very dark pisces. Neither turned out the way I thought they would.
    (I thought the older one would be the martial arts type and the younger the artist. The older is a grad student in Music and the younger is a math nerd with muscles all over him. go figure
    Oh NO!
    I just realized I'm gonna have to shave my legs for this darn costume! (I don't go to work for another 45 min, and I'm delaying the inevitable shower and costume routine)
    Butch Island Girl is looking better and better. But I'm just not butch enough to carry it off. It would be much funnier if I didn't have such a femme-y physique.
    I vote for Butch Island Girl. Or keep the long underwear on. Or go with hairy legs. Hairy legs are sexy, right? Island girls didn't really shave, right? Be authentic.
