When we went through this with my parents , hospice was very supportive. Sending hugs through the ethernet... lifting in my thoughts...

I'm so sorry Ruth. I hope you can find peace and joy in addition to sorrow in what lies ahead. Now is the time to start talking about the old stories, the ones that make you laugh, that remind her what a joyous life she has shared with you, and how much she is loved.

    (hugs)

    Prayers ascending.

    Ruth,

I'm so sorry to hear this news - I can't even imagine what it would be like to hear this about my mom, who is thankfully, to this point (age 72 on Nov. 2), very healthy.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of my father's death in a car accident last year. He's been on my mind even more than usual this week, and I had a good cry tonight. I am not sure which is worse...losing a parent suddenly and unexpectedly (with no time to say anything you wished you'd said) or losing a parent more slowly, as with cancer. In the cancer case, you do get to reminisce, to share, but you also have to experience such a prolonged period of knowing what is to come, a gradual loss ... so draining to the spirit of all involved. My grandmother died of cancer, rather slowly, my mother went through it with her, and it was very difficult. There's no way to make it easy, but hospice does good work. They were very kind to my grandmother and helped my mom so much.

    You'll be in my thoughts.

My prayers are with you and your family. I've been there with my mom, and it's rough. Take care of yourself and keep us posted on how you are doing or just to talk.
