Police Bikes?

Maybe they paint POLICE on thier bikes so big because they don't want their bikes to get stolen like everyone else's bikes!

I know some officers that should be out riding bike patrol, (minus the coffee/donut holders ).

One of the guys in our club has a Smith & Wesson bike that he got through a cop friend, but he took off the "police" part (or got one that didn't have it). The valve caps were designed to look like bullets.

I couldn't find the spoke lights I picked up at ****'s Sporting Goods (I know this is going to get censored... it's that big box place named Richard ), but I have a feeling that red and blue lights are going to be enough - I know a kid told a mom "look at that police woman!" when I was riding the black Schwinn with my bright safety-bike-dork gear on... (Dork's Sporting Goods would have come through? INteresting...) My rainsuit is all yellow and black, my gloves are black... Maybe it's a good thing Critical Mass is too far away to get to by bicycle from work

LOL... yeah, it's the Police on them that make 'em special...

I actually volunteer for SDPD... and I gotta tell ya, the police need to learn some bike maintenance stuff! I have not seen dirtier chains... (you should see the rookie marks they get!) or ones more in need of some cleaning and lube! I told 'em next time I work an event I'll bring my chain cleaner and simple green as well as my tri-flow and we'll make 'em run a little better... I'm shocked they can actually CATCH anyone on them!

We are currently favoured with re-runs of Pacific Blue (think 1980-ish and/or Baywatch on bikes) on a cable tv channel called AXN.

Yup, it's just that it has "police" on it that makes it so you need qualifying ID to purchase it. I've found "police" bikes actually much heavier than most in that price range... not sure if it's special stuff to reinforce the bike, or just that most departments buying bikes for their officers seem not to know much *about* bikes...
xh and I had matching guide gold/black cycling jackets, helmets and similar colors on our bikes... both carried backpacks, etc. People mistook us for bike cops all the time. I didn't mind because it meant people would watch a little more and be a little more careful not to hit us...

Interesting Tidbit about Police on bikes over here...

On the news the other night I noticed they have blinky lights on the visors of their helmets... One Red... ONE BLUE! lol

I love it! Wonder if they have sirens too!

Our laws explicitly state that cyclists can't have sirens (though I bet cops on bikes could).

I was definitely feeling maintenance guilt this morning because I'm afraid that Gazelle was easier to ride than any of my bicycles, and I suspect it's lubrication. I need to make it a thursday night routine or something, or start a "maintenance watchers" support group a la weight watchers
