Acquired a New Skill

I acquired an important and useful new skill on my ride this morning, though I still need to perfect it.

It was 35 degrees at the start of the ride. When it is cold, my nose becomes a veritable gusher, much more so than anybody I ride with.

I learned how to blow snot-rockets.

Woo hoo! It is defnitely a skill.

I blow them, but sometimes my jersey takes the brunt of the "fallout."
As first I thought that was just about the grossest thing I'd ever seen, but now I know it's the only option. My nose just can't compete with cold weather.

I was about to launch one when somebody passed me... and then there was the cold weather one last week when I'd pulled into the school bike rack that would *not* drop off... (I didn't start this thread, I didn't start this thread

That's why I hate when people ride behind me, I can't blow my nose properly. (see I do think about other people

).
But if I am riding a race then I just do it, because everybody else does

I think I did pretty good as far as shooting straight down for the road. You could have been right behind me and it would have been ok.

Wonder how gross I can get this thread.

I've found for me to be successful, I have to be moving at at least 18 mph. I dunno - it's my threshold I've discovered. Anything less than that, and things can get kind of.....messy.

I fare better with stop signs and traffic lights. Just lean and blow. I'm sure the folks in cars love it.
Rode last winter with a guy who had NO luck at all, and he had quite a mess on his shoulder. GAG! I was actually wretching in the back, and had to go up in front and lead for the rest of the ride.

It was NASTY.

As gross as it is- I am jealous! We don't get much cold weather here, so I don't know what to do with my runny nose. My arm warmers usually get the bulk of my winter drainage. This thread is gross to anyone but cyclists!

The winter weather here has started, so the whole week it has been chilly, clouded, windy and wet. I already came home totally soaked for a number of times and am already fed up with having to clean the bike

. But it is perfect to exercise the snot rockets and exercising turning into the curves on the wet road (it still gives me the chills to see how fast some riders dare to take a wet curve).

I think that this is such a wonderful skill to master. Before biking, wouldn't dream of snot rockets and couldn't spit if my life depended on it. After biking, learned all of the above. My better talent is leaning to the left to clean my nostril, somehow that right side is a 50/50 of landing in the road or on my sleeve. TO get off topic, last winter went x-country skiing, had to blow my nose, no tissues, so i leaned over, warned the folks I was with, did my duty. Was told by the older man in the group, there was nothing more attractive than a real women blowing her nose. Now how was that for a compliment, made me feel pretty good. Gosh, at least I took it as a compliment.
