OK, it's a bad picture but here are my babies - Zeus is the dark one, a border collie "mamma's boy", 10 years old, and the other beauty is Xena, my 8 year old elkhound mix, with one blue eye and one brown eye. She's a great mouser, too.

The dog on the right in the picture in this post http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showp...1&postcount=11 lost her battle with cancer yesterday. Cassie was almost 13, and I'd had her for 8 years. She was my last foster dog from my days of doing cocker spaniel rescue. She got along so well with my other two dogs, and was so sweet compared to my two rambunctious boys, that I just had to keep her.
After thoughtful words and advice from Lisa SH here on the board and from my wonderful dog walker, I finally had the courage to take Cassie to the vet yesterday to put her out of the pain and misery from her mast cell tumors. My extraordinarily compassionate veterinarian made the ordeal bearable, and I'm so grateful for that. But even so, as dogmama said a few weeks ago, it sucks.
Here's a picture of my adorable Cassie resting inside the fireplace, her favorite spot.
i'm so sorry to hear about what happened. it's hard no matter what.

Oh, DivingBiker, I'm so sorry to hear that.
It's always so hard to lose a pet. But understand that you did the right thing. Cassie isn't suffering any more.
I'll light a candle tonight to guide her to the Bridge.
Our deepest sympathy, divingbiker. Mere words are so inadequate, but take comfort that Cassie is at peace. Possibly our greatest act of love towards our beloved furry companions is giving them a gentle passing at the time of their greatest need.
Gentle journey, dear Cassie.

I was just there a few weeks ago - I lost my 14 y.o. German Shepherd to a neurological spine disorder. I'd been watching it come on, but it's still hard when the decision is made.
Somebody on this board said, "You took on her pain so she would not have any pain." So true.
Love and hugs to you. Take extra good care of yourself right now.
