IRULAN - Help!

Well- I finally got that sweet Primal Wear jersey I was looking for- the Thunderbird one.
Oh man- the pictures can't do it justice- the sleeves are this wonderful deep blue- almost looks like shimmering dark water. And the black and white and red design is stylin'.

BUT-

I wore it tonight, singletracking through the bush. And my group didn't wait for me...so I went off on my own- and got into some pretty deep bush- crashing through trees and burrs and stuff-
And I got a RUN in it! In the front! Right by the zipper- little loose, cut threads!And since the design is actually woven into the shirt as opposed to being printed on it- it's noticeable and potentially jersey destroying!

So- rather than having it unravel off me on the trail, which may not be a pretty thing...
how can I fix it!!!
Irulan- I know you make biking clothing.

put some clear nail polish on the run, or something called "fray check" from the notions sections of a sewing store. That should keep it from unravelling any more. If you still have a longish hole after doing that, I'd just take a needle and thread and carefully pull it closed. But you still will want to "glue" the ends so it doesn't undo any more.
and then touch up the design with permanent marker.

I hope I undetstoond your problem OK, if not I'm not going anywhere...

Okay- I think I've got it.
The problem is 3 snagged, and cut theads which protrude from the fabric.
So- if I cut them off, and use either nail polish or snag fixer, will that fix it- will the threads pull back into the material? Will the nail polish lock them there or is it likely they will continue to pull loose?
want me to take a picture of them?

don't cut anything. If you can, pull the little strings to the inside and then stick them down.

The nail polish ought to lock them. If there's any kind of a gap, hand sew it closed after you use the nail polish.

Hey, while you're at it, I need help too. Somehow, not sure exactly, but during my pre-ride shopping adventure I got a hole burned into my jersey and my sports bra!!! Not sure how, thought maybe my spare tube was laying on them, and the valve did it, but no. Don't think they were contacting the cleat of my shoes. Anyway, it's currently my only jersey (ordered two on ebay but the fit is ummm, trashy) and it has a wittle hole in it. Oh sure, the whole is small and it is melted and not going anywhere, but is there anyway to make it better? Could I stitch witch some red coolmax back in there? I know, it's obsessive, but that jersey is the love of my life. It's the old Pearl Izumi Blazin' Saddle Pinto Beans, they just don't make um like that anymore. *sniffle*

I can't pull the little strings back in because there is kind of a mesh backing on the jersey.
I could cut em and knot em and polish them though...
would that be okay?

what happened is something snagged a few threads of the jersey- pulled them out in a loop- then cut through them - I have NO idea how this happened- I didn't crash into anything- I did go past a few swinging pine tree branches though.
And me afraid of spiders- which just LOVE to hide in big ol' pine trees.

cut out a little circle of fabric and zigzag it on.

I still wouldn't pull on them unless you are 100% sure that you'll get enough to know. It sounds like your fabric is a multilayer weave, not a straight jersey knit ( mesh backing) which means it will be more stable than a plain jersey. I'd still just glue the strings down.

Well- after dragging as many people as I could in to help me with my jersey snag dilema-
It is fixed!

Used a needle and brought it back through to the back of the fabric- and knotted it off.There is one little line, but otherwise I don't think you'll really notice-
heck, I'm sure that snag is the LAST thing anybody will notice when I wear spandex....

If you're still in the mood to dole out advice...

My BF bought me a totally gorgeous jersey, but it's a men's cut, and I'm kinda curvy. It's loose through the chest, but then it rides up from my hips and bunches up to my waist. I was thinking about just dealing with the looseness, but snipping the elastic in the waist. What do you think?

you should remove the elastic, but don't just snip it. Ideally , you can have it hemmed to a better length, but a lot of times the elastic is just too tight. It could be reshaped too... any decent alterationist with a serger can do this.
Gab, do you have anything to add?

I think most purchased jerseys are too long, men's or women's.

Yeah, but that's the men's one. Mine is sleeveless and different colors, plus I only paid $30. Buuuut, it's not fair because the back of the men's one says "Saddle up for a ride to remember." What, women can't have sexual innuendos on their jerseys?
