Goin' carbon

I am sooo excited! I'm getting a new carbon seat post, and a perhaps a new carbon flat bar tomorrow for my bike. This kid from one of the shops has a used Easton EC70 seat post which is good enough for me. Dunno how much he wants for the bar because that's gonna be new from his shop, but I'm stoked. My bike is gonna be soooo much lighter! I can't wait to see how she handles with her new upgrades, from what I understand, the carbon seatpost makes a difference in smoothing out the ride. Ah, who cares, I'm becoming a weight weenie and I'm proud. *laughs* I swear, the bike is getting more love than the horse, uh oh. =)

What seatpost are you using now?

I hate to say it, but don't be too surprised if it doesn't make a huge difference. Most of the weight savings that you will really notice come when you lighten up "turning" parts- i.e. cranks, chainrings, wheels, brakes, etc.

I don't care if I'm called a weight weenie. I LOVE carbon. I just think it's cool. It's so high techie. My road bike is dripping with carbon, but on my mountain bike the only carbon is the brake levers. I had a carbon bar on it, but I surrendered to the "form-follows-function" concept and switched it for one that fit better. But it doesn't look as cool. One thing I hate is "carbon look". It's either carbon or it's not. No fake carbon!

*grins* Thanks for the word of advice, but if you felt my current bar and seat post, you'd understand. You would think, that for $500 more than the GF Tassajara they'd give me a better bar and seat post, but no. It's the Fishtrektrager incestuous parts crap and I'm soooo sick of it! (As an aside, I did however jump to GF's top of the line fram though, so eh) I'm planning on losing weight in my crankset, cassette, and pedals eventually, but right now these are the parts I can justify, because I can't wear them out like I can those. I plan on riding the piss out of the other parts, taking my learning, and falling curve out on them, then a month before my first race, loading up the goodies. As far as wheels go, my new little crush boy says the ones I have aren't bad, Bontrager Superstocks, and that unless I'm gonna invest big time in new tires, it's really not worth it. The bang for the buck in a $400 dollar wheelset isn't that great. For $400 dollars, I'm gonna put a new Dale Chavez show halter on my pretty little palomino pony.

As far as the carbon look, I totally agree!!! It has to be the real thing, and damn the real thing looks good! So geeky, so hot! Tee hee, I got new grips for my bike, some Specialized Durangos to replace the big, fat, squishy Serfas that came on my bike (they hurt my hands soooo bad). Oooh man does she look good! So much more official looking now! Especially with her sexy Fizik Vitesse saddle. Well, okay, the guy at the shop did have a shiny blue Fizik saddle that would look even hotter, but hellooooo! She's a mountain bike, not a Barbie doll.
