Lise, glad you're having fun. Let us know what you visit in DC. It is a fabulous place to wander around in--the museums are amazing, I like the different neighborhoods, etc.
I was about to pursue aikido when my back decided to go fibromyalgia on me, and I had to quit ballet after many years and thus KNEW I could never manage aikido--too bad, since I too think aikido is beautiful.
I SMASHED my toe against Mr. Salsa's still-packed suitcase this morning on the way to the bathroom (in the basement dungeon--so it's not like it was actually in my way, just not accustomed to the smaller space configuration). OW OW OW OW OW. My toe is hugely swollen and purple and disgusting and I can't put any weight on it. Wonder how compatible this is with the 60-mile tandem ride planned for tomorrow? AND dammit, REI didn't have the SIDI Dominator size I need, although the guy was immensely useful in helping me figure out what size I really DO need (male regular width 42.5, for those who are interested. The women's shoe is too narrow for me, and TE Goddess Susan Otcenas helped me figure this out. Thank you, Susan. Wish you sold the male shoes; then I could buy them from you).
Why are construction crews such china shop bulls? They've dumped a gajillion nails in our yard, so we're trying to clean them up so a) the cats can go back out without six million nails underfoot and b) whenever I get back to relandscaping and a real garden I won't have to worry about being impaled by large nails every time I dig a hole to plant. Arrr.
Maillotpois, are you running/walking/hiking? How you feeling?
Fishdoc, are you there yet?
Am assuming that Choco, Maizey, tortoises are well, and Nanci's daughter's bird is getting better. Poor both of them.

"My predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved;I have been given much and I have given something in return...Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and an adventure." O. Sacks
