Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
I have been following your thread, and hoping that you would have a great ride. I am so sorry that you had a chic vs mammal incident. You and your sister are both tough girls. Sounds like you are both troopers.
Hang in there during the healing process. Many of us here have been sidelined with illness or injuries, and often you come back stronger. Take care, and please do post the story of your day when you can manage the keyboard.

Healing wishes are coming your way... remember, your bike and the pool will both still be there when your arm is healed.
One idea though, from another person who has a very hard time not exercising - walking can be good too. Not running, no jarring motion for your arm, just walking. That's what I did as I recovered from my own crash back in 2004. I went from riding 5 to 6 days a week to not being allowed on my bike at all for five weeks. The first several weeks I wasn't capable of even walking, but then I eased into walking. My walking time grew each day. It kept me sane, and it helped to maintain some level of fitness - much better than not doing anything. So - first give yourself a chance to rest, then ease back to an active lifestye as your body permits.

Oh...no...Katie....you were supposed to get to join the "I rode 50 miles on my bike" club, but instead you've joined my "I crashed my bike and fracture-dislocated my elbow" club! Arrrggghh....many years ago I crashed my bike (a car pushed me off the road). I dislocated my elbow and cracked the head of my radius. Ouch! I wish I had had a sister like yours taking care of me that day (although a nice stranger helped me out and called the ambulance for me).
Anyway....sorry to hear you've joined my club. Three weeks in that cast isn't that long. Take some time rest and to let the body heal. Listen to your doctors and, just as important, listen to your Physical Therapists when that cast comes off. When they give you exercises to get your arm back into shape, do them with the strength of character we've seen from you on this group and the doctor saw in the emergency room. You'll get better before you know it.
And, don't forget to thank your sister every now and then for having been there for you!

Yikes--so sorry I'm just now reading about Katie's fall! Tell her we're thinking of her, Angela, and kudos to you, too, for being such great big sister. Best wishes for the quickest recovery ever!
