Out of the Mouths of Babes

Since I can't ride outside for another 2 & 3/4 months, I have decided to start some Spinerval training. Once I am done with my marathon (I am sort of in taper mode), then I will use a long spinerval workout in place of a long ride. For now, I am just doing shorter ones.

So this morning, I was downstairs doing a spinerval DVD, and the 10 year old PP comes down to read her book with me and wait for me to finish to take her to school.

Our discussion went something like this:

MP (me): I have another 25 minutes.

PP: Okay. I'll just read. (Pause. Reads. Looks up at TV.) Those people on the TV don't look very happy.

MP: No, they don't. (long pause).

PP: They're sweating a lot more than you are.

MP: Yeah, if I work as hard as they do right now, I'll throw up, so I am not sweating as much.

PP: That guy really doesn't like doing this.

MP: No. Did you finish your book just now?

PP: Yes. (Gives 5 minute long discussion of book. I have no clue what she was saying or what the book was about, but inserted the appropriate "Oh, really?" and "Uh - huh" type comments.)

PP: She's pedalling really fast. If you do this every day, you'll be a really good biker.

MP: Maybe I'll be faster than your dad.

PP (laughs): Maybe.

MP: Go up and feed the dog, and I will take you to school as soon as this is done.

PP: Seven more minutes. It's like a countdown to when you can be happy!

That is BRILLIANT-

Sometimes I wonder what I look like when I ride, since most of the time when I see other people riding, they don't look all that thrilled.....

thats funny. i usually do those dvd with two dogs staring at me and one trying to give me a toy to throw for her. not nearly as entertaining as yours though. though the puppies do get sick of me ignoring them after a while, try to 'talk' to me then give up.

which long spinerval do you use for your long days?

I can relate, CWR! I haven't been riding on the trainer lately, but when I did, it was always with the two dog-faces coming around every so often to see if I wanted to play YET.

MP, I once read that the only way we've ever figured out how to make time stand still is to ride a stationary bike!

Oh, that is so good. I always think of it as the countdown to relief but the countdown to happiness is so darn much better.
