How many helmets do you own?

Okay, okay, I know this is a really girly question... but does your helmet match your clothes, your bike or does it not matter at all?

I have mostly-red clothes to go with my red Giro helmet. (Hence, the obsession with Castelli). But my bike is slate blue and silver. I just found a jersey that matches my bike perfectly. So... do I look for a cool matching helmet, too?

BF is rolling his eyes at the mere mention of "matching" gear. (To cover up, I reminded him how important it was to have a second helmet just in case I accidentally drop the first one. Good one! Pat myself on back)

So... should I get the helmet? Or is this just too wickedly shallow?

I only have one helmet, and it is orange, which matches most of my clothing.
I had an ugly black one for 5 years. Then one day it fell out of the closet and hit my head and bounced to the ground and BROKE! (the styrofoam cracked)
and that is how i got my new helmet

LOL - thats so funny (sorry).

I only have one that I use for both mountain and road. Its silver so it pretty much goes with most colours. When I mention getting another helmet for mountain biking my husband also rolls his eyes.....hmm could this be a common ailment amongst spouses of cyclists.

Three for very logical reasons. First of all (do as I say and not as I do), replace your helments regularly! You've only got one noggin, give it a nice fresh topper according to the safety guidelines.

I keep a duffel bag set up with all my gear specific to road - extra tubes, cleats, brake pads, shoes, etc. Same goes for mountainbike gear. This way I can just pick up the appropriate bag and head out the door without rounding up anything except my orthotics. A third (and oldest) helmet has a light and reflective tape on it for after dark rides. I hate fiddling with stuff. I want it ready to go when with the muse strikes.

PS - I do have a new helmet on order to migrate through the rotation.

I have a plain silver/white Giro helmet for my road bike, which I am probably going to have to replace because some of the velcro is coming off and I am not sure I can fix it. I felt ridiculous commuting on my townie in that helmet, though, so I have a red Bell Metro for commuting. I think I am probably going to start wearing the Bell for mountain biking, too, because it has a removable visor and I always seem to have sun in my eyes when I'm on the mountain bike. Also, I don't have a taillight on the MB and it's easy to attach one to the back of the Bell helmet for the ride home.

As much as I wanted to get a blue helmet to match my blue bike and mostly blue cycling wardrobe, in the end I opted to get a silver for this very reason. Just in case any additional bikes I might own aren't blue. Hard to imagine such a scenario, though.

ETA: And it ain't just a girly thing, either. My brother bought a helmet to match his bike and his sunglasses, and one of his specific criteria was that his sunglasses had to be able to flip up into them for easy storage. OK, maybe we're just fussy in my family!

    I have three
A silver Limar 911 - netural color goes with anything
A silver/grey Bell Influx (Beieve it's called the Alcheara outside of the Us - another netural color
    A Purple(lavender)/White Giro Monza - Cause I like purple!
Had a giro havoc - Dropped on concrete - in the trash!
Like SK, You need to have more than one of these! That way, even if you have a "minor" crash, you won't be tempted to wear it rather than throw it away. You don't only have one pair of earrings or shoes, do you?
I also like SK's idead of bag with your stuff. I do most of riding out of my front door, but when I have to take a car to the ride, I do put the bike stuuf (vs the bike) in a duffel

I am still on my first one, that I bought this summer.
I am very picky about my clothing, but for some reason I don't care as much about my helmet matching anything. I do like it to be white or a light or bright color however, since I tend to wear too much black while biking anyway, and I worry about being seen well enough.

i have the giro one thats white and gold. i got it so i didn't have to have different ones to match my outfits.

BF was the one that said to get that color so it went with everything. his is silver for that very reason. so it isn't just a girl thing or something that only runs in Dianyla's family.

Usually 3, I need a new one. The oldest one's usualy in the car since the day I arrived at a Century with everything .... but a helmet (luckily the Primavera starts near home).

After tiring of nagging a co-worker to get a brain bucket I gave her my oldest lid, a 3 year old Giro Eclipse. Whata waste of a good planter.

Does she wear it? Noooooooooo. But she's a manager so whadya expect?

Now I have two and I'm not givin' em away, each has my ALC sticker on it. But I need a new one.

I was going to wait till Veloswap but will pounce on the next sale/nice design, I promise. They are kept out of sunlight unless on my head

I don't try to match my outfits, heck I barely match my socks. I don't like white, black or grey helmets, anything else is fine.

So far I only have 1, the first Giro I bought in July when I began cycling. It is pink and white. From other posts, I can see I *need* more.

I match my helmets to my bike. I think most people here do it that way. I wear lots of black and blue, and some yellow and pink. My bikes are red/silver/pewter and black/silver, so it would be kinda hard to make *everything* match.

I have three helmets, which are silver (Bell Sweep XC), black/pewter (Giro Atmos) and silver (Giro Atmos). I use the first two, and have the third one on reserve. Normally I would have waited until I really needed the third one, but the silver Atmos is a discontinued color, so I snatched it up when I found it. :P

I do think that it's a good idea to have a spare helmet, even if it's an older one, as long as it's still in usable condition.

Just the one... but have wanted a second.

My one is red and black and matches nicely to my Red Pony and Black Thunder...

But my Silver Cloud... well, I thought I was just being precious thinking my helmet didn't match... now I know I was being logical...

I can see a trip to the local bikeshops on the cards...
