Hi gals,
I'm thinking about doing the lowland 100 either fixed of singlespeed. I'm a little concerned about doing a group ride fixed (never done it with gearies), but this would sure be a nice one.
Roadfix, have you ever done this one? Any advice? I currently run 42x16 fixed and 42x19 free.
Actually, I did the LA Wheelmen's lowland 200 miler back in June on my fixed gear. I took a flip flop, fixed on both sides, running 46x18 and 46x16, front brake only. I rode the 18 cog all the way up to Ojai then flipped to the 16 for most of the down hill and stayed with that cog for the remainder of the ride.
I ride fixed with groups of geared riders all the time. There's really not much difference whether you're on your fixed or geared bike....as long as you're geared properly.
The lowland 100 is fairly flat so you should have no problem with running your fixed 16 cog for the entire ride. Are you saving the 19 freecog for the climbs and down hills?
As for this weekend's double metric, I'm taking my geared bike...![]()
