That is pretty cool. Good for them. That's great support.
Your PowerBar story . . . I swear at a local crit that I heard them say the "first three" would get a prime of a box of PowerBars to split. Whoopee.![]()

So there is an organization around these parts called North West Women's Cycling that was formed to encourage women to take up racing. Each year they pick a certain number of the races to include in a series for the women who are 4's and 3's - we don't always get to race by ourselves as 4's and the 3's are completely stuck racing with the 1's and 2's. They wanted the lower cat gals to have something to compete for without having to compete against the higher cat women.
So long story short, I did a lot of racing this year, I did pretty well and I won the series! Now I had no idea what the prize for this would be. Really I expected it to be a box of PowerBars or something. At the 4's level you just don't expect too much. Boy was I surprised to find out that the first prize is a Ti frame, with a carbon fork!! (its a production model from a local store, a TiCycles Hyak) I mean wow am I blown away. I got to go take a test ride on a built up one the other day (I am really small so I had to be sure that the 47cm model would actually fit me)- talk about cushy! I can't wait to build up my own. I'll likely continue to use my CF bike to race most road races, but I think I'll probably use this new one for crits and I'm going to have the nicest rain bike on the block![]()

Oh my goodness. That is REALLY fabulous. Good going!
PS
I do not generally view Power Bars as reward material.
Wow! Nice going.![]()
Drink coffee and do stupid things faster with more energy.
Wohoo Eden!
Thanks for the details - congrats on the yellow jersey for the series and what an awesome surprise... so much better than a handful of PowerBars!
Well deserved too - you are such a committed and disciplined cyclist, and so helpful on the forums.
So... now you know it fits... how are you going to build her up?
Ti frame means Titanium? So what wheels, make of gears etc etc - or are you still in the dreaming-about-it stage and have made no decisions?

Do people still eat Powerbars?
Gosh when we first started riding in the late 80s, you would keep your PowerBars in the leg of your shorts so they would soften up. That way you wouldn't break a tooth when you ate them.![]()
Cool prize Eden and congratulations on the win.

I've pretty much decided that she'll be my super plush rain bike that can also race in the early season and crits. This bike will have 650 wheels, which for my road bikes I've been avoiding, as they say never look a gift horse in the mouth. It will actually work out pretty well. About a month ago I picked up a used TT bike (my god I found one in my size!) that takes 650's and one of my husbands team mates knows a lot of triatheletes who have 650 disks and other goodies that they would probably sell cheap, so I'd already planned to get TT wheels for the TT bike. Now I can transfer over the Velocity deep V's that came with the TT bike to the new frame. Other than that I'm going to have to work out the parts I have plus the parts I'll need and see what I come up with. We have a plethora of spare parts in the basement, so I know I have some things, like a pair of Ultegra STI levers hanging around. We have a pretty new LBS just about a block away from my house and he's going to help me with ordering the right parts and building it up. I think this is going to be fun.Originally Posted by RoadRaven

Sad to say, but I still eat them. Not that I think they taste good or anything, but at least I know that they won't give me stomach cramps if I eat one before a race.Originally Posted by Veronica

Congratulations, Eden! What a wonderful prize!
My triathlete crush, Peter Reid, was sponsored by Power bars. He certainly talked them up. I, however, have eaten them. And not even Peter Reid can get me to do that on a regular basis!![]()

That is an awesome prize. I'm usually pretty happy with socks. Congrats on winning your series too!
Sounds awesome Eden
Are you able to post pix when you get the frame fully "accessorised"?
